Cloud Storage With Red Hat Ceph Storage Feedback Session

Who: Red Hat Learning Subscription Members

Red Hat Training would like to invite you to a live feedback session for our upcoming offering: Cloud Storage With Red Hat Ceph Storage (CL260). As a valued member of the Red Hat Learning Community, our curriculum developers want to hear from you. Your feedback will directly impact changes or updates to this in-development course.

To participate, please complete the available content for CL260 in your Red Hat Learning Subscription Early Access catalog before the feedback session, January 22nd at 10am EST. Our developers will be looking for your feedback on the following topics as they relate to your experience with the CL260 Early Access material:

  • Do the exercises fit a real world use case you’re trying to solve?
  • Were the instructions clear enough for you to follow?
  • Does the ordering of material work for you?
  • Did you learn anything new or valuable?
  • What big things would you change about the exercises?

If you would like to join us, please fill out this form with your name, RHLC user name, and email address, and you will receive an invitation with instructions to join the session.

We are looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi, everyone. I am the Curriculum Architect with responsibility for the scope, focus and quality of this Red Hat Ceph Storage offering. Joel Birchler is the Practice Manager for the developer team working on this course.

Live early access feedback (LEAF) sessions are a new idea. As a Red Hat Learning Subscriber, you already have access to courses while they are in development, through the Early Access tab and course links in the Red Hat Online training portal. You have the ability to provide feedback at any time on new and existing courses by using the Feedback submission link within the course main page.

So, what is a LEAF session and how is this different?

A live early access feedback session is a scheduled event, on a specific day or days within an announced time slot. At this live feedback session, you can interact with the curriculum team to ask questions, make suggestions, or discuss scope for a specific course. This provides a simple method for contributing ideas and feedback for the preliminary published course content. You will interact with one or more course developers and stakeholders, including other experienced RHLS subscribers and RHLC community contributors. We are enthusiastic about these sessions, because they allow us to have a live, direct communication with our most relevant customers for any particular course.

Use this CL260 Cloud-Storage-With-Red-Hat-Ceph forum to engage with other participants. Discuss features, ask questions, provide ideas, and meet some of the developers who are building the course. You can post questions at any time, even now, but the live aspect of this discussion will occur on January 22nd.

This Cloud Storage With Red Hat Ceph Storage (CL260 v4.2) Feedback Session highlights preliminary exercises for our comprehensive, standalone Ceph course, updated to version 4.2. CL260 is the update to the CEPH125 course, which remains on version 3.

Like Deanna, I also look forward to hearing from you!

Hello!

I am the curriculum development manager for the new CL260 course. Our team is really excited about our Red Hat Ceph Storage 4 course, and we are thrilled about this initiative to amplify the user feedback we incorporate into our course!

We've published an early draft of our course that covers the majority of the guided exercises that we are planning for the final course. Today's release doesn't include our typical polished narratives and chapter reviews, but we've hit the key objectives for learning Ceph 4.

We'll be making minor modifications and tweaks to the content over the next couple weeks, but what we want most is to hear from you! We see this first release as a minimum viable product (MVP). This next step -- understanding from you what works and what doesn't -- is critical for creating the absolute best course that we can!

We look forward to hearing your thoughts on what we've done so far!

Well, the instructions for Guided Exercise: Deploying Red Hat Ceph Storage are faulty and not consistent.

Step 2 is asking students to run

$ ansible 'server*' -m shell -a 'dnf repolist | grep ceph'

Personally I would prefer if Red Hat just stopped using yum but in all other courses and even later in this GE yum is being used and not dnf.

Major fault happens if one follows the instructions in Step8 where the end result is in the attached picture.Screenshot_20210120_190725.png
The instructions should tell the student to also add containerized_deployment: true to group_vars/all.yml file. Only then will ceph-ansible be successful at deploying Ceph on server[c:e].

Die young, be a beautiful little corpse!

A developer will look at that and make corrections.

Good catch, der_Alte. Be sure to set the following directive in your group_vars/all.yml file, then rerun the ansible playbook:

containerized_deployment: True

Although the example yaml in step 8.8 contains that directive, the instructions don't mention uncommenting and setting it. I was working on updating those instructions as you called out this problem. Thanks!

PS: You are right, we are inconsistent. We are standardizing on yum, not dnf.

Will this course replace CEPH125 and also the EX125 exam?

Any idea what the ETA will be for this?

The CL260 course will have an EX260 exam which will replace the EX125. There is some period of time while the older Ceph 3 course and exam will stay available.

@Henry_Maine are you ready to share a GA date for EX260?

Thanks!
