DO328 lab cluster unhealthy catalog

Jump to solution

Hello,

I am taking the course Building Resilient Microservices with Istio and Red Hat OpenShift Service Mesh Self-paced Training (DO328SP).
Starting off with installment of the first operator I keep getting a "UnhealthyCatalogSourceFound" in the respective description of the created object in the openshift-operators namespace/project since last week (see screenprint).
This issue has taken already 3 hours and the number of access days is ticking down.
I have been in contact with customer support and heard there were "some intermittent internet issues in the EMEA region".
I have deleted and recreated the lab as indicated by them, and repeated the instructions without any more result than having my quay.io account recognized, which it did not even do at the start last friday.
There is something wrong with the provisioned openshift-marketplace.

Finally discovered the cause myself.
Allthough all manifests were syntactivally checked ok in VCode with RedHat YAML plugin after copy/pasting from the syllabus, the YAML files in the solution directory under materials.example.com did not have mentioned issues.
I must say that the syllabus is lacking information about resources and best practice to follow along without problems and confusing because of the order of information about setup.

Hi @aslg ,

Thanks for reaching out !

Please make sure you are not trying to perform any demo lecture that does not have the title as either "Guided exercise" or "Lab". Because those are for introduction / demo  lecture purpose. The first exercise that you should perform  here is Chapter 1 Section 1.6: Guided Exercise: Verifying OpenShift Credentials , here you will configure your OCP cluster to continue with any lab exercise. Post that next lab exercises which you should perform is in Chapter 2: Section 2.2: Guided Exercise: Install OpenShift Service Mesh.

Please follow this and let us know if you face any issue.

Right, that would make sense, thank you Chetan!

Well, after Guided Exercise "Verifying OpenShift Credentials" I continued with Guided Exercise "Install OpenShift Service Mesh" and viewed the OperatorHub that said that named operators were installed. So a peek into the Installed Operators showed a "Cannot update" status warning (surely related to the unhealthy catalog state) in all four installed operators (screenshot).

So to make sure that a vanila start (deleting and recreating the lab) would show a different state, I  went directly into the GUI after the lab-configure command and credentials verification, but now the OperatorHub is completely empty.

I am starting to get pretty disappointed by RedHat, having spent 3 gran on a course which lab just is not working.
Where do I turn to have this misconfiguration fixed and my timer reset to initial settings?
