EX180 - exam environment root confusion

Jump to solution

Hi

I recently attended EX180 and i experienced what i believe was an environmental specific issue or maybe just lack of knowledge about the environment from my side. To not violating the Non-Disclosure agreement i wont go into much detail about it but we all know that when working with the terminal we sometimes need to be root to do certain things.

But i was not at all able to become that at all...

Tried

sudo su -

Also tried running commands as sudo like

sudo some-command..

And the password was provided as far as i could understand but it was simply not working for me... It's very frustrating when you know all the commands necessary to solve a given task but you can't become root to do certain things.

Hi Mostafa and Abir

I think you are both absolutely right.. I just parsed my exam this Friday and got my certification.

I think it was never intended for me become root in the first place... Looking back, I think I might have done some "overthinking". If I had just looked more carefully I would see that the actions I was trying to perform as root already where performed for me in the environment.

What was the EX180 version you had?

Typically, you do not have root access to desktop.

That's pretty normal. Usually you don't really need to root access to any machines. I also tried to use the password provided in the exam but that password didn't work at all. I asked the proctor few times and got the default reply. So I guess this is intentional.

Congratulations @kristofermar well done.

What was your version on each of the both attempts? (V4.5 or 4.6 or 4.10)

Congratulations! That's a very good news. My version was 4.10. Went to schedule the 4.6 one but ended up scheduling 4.10 because, why not?
