Will DO180 be replaced with a new or different course ?

I have been planning to take this course, not yet, but in a couple of months I hoped to take this course. The course will however be removed soon, so I was wondering if anyone knew if this course will be replaced with another updated course.

Why is this course being removed ?

The Exam is being updated with EX188 and if your plan is to study EX180 in a few months then just start with EX188.  EX180 exam is being removed from Red Hat's catalog on January 1, 2023.

The link below is for EX188.

The main point of taking that course was to try to become a Red Hat Certified Specialist in Openshift administration. As far as I know the course being removed now was a part of becoming that. I wonder if this EX188 will be a requirement for becoming that now instead of the EX180 exam.

It was basically D0180 and then DO280 that was the plan, but I'm not sure if DO188 is a requirement anymore to take D0280.

Half of the course content of the DO188 course seems to be what was taught in RH134 about containers though.

Looks like there's some confusion on this thread. The course (DO180) is not being removed. It's been updted and extended. I think that only the exam (EX180) is being retired and someone from the exam team can explain that better than me.

DO180 used to be a course with a wide focus, with content for developers and content for system administrators (or platform operators), The Curriculum Team decided to split DO180 into two courses: DO180 and DO188 so each course focus on a different audience:

  • DO180 for sysadmins, platform operators, etc: anyone managing an OpenShift cluster.
  • DO188 for developers that  target either a local container engine or OpenShift

The exam for a Certified OpenShift Administrator is EX280 and that exam always required both DO180 and DO280.

Thank you for answering. Its good to know that the D0180 has been split up into a sysadmin and developer course.

If I understand you correctly the D0180 has just been updated and a new exam for this course will be created soon.

Its a little strange that passing the exam for that course will make you a specialist in containers and not a specialist in both containers and kubernetes. Why was the kubernetes part removed ?

DO180 has been updated just so hands-on activities use a more recent release of OpenShift. The update that focus on sysadmins is coming next year. I expect larger changes to exams next year too but I cannot speak of them (I'm not from the exam team).

The current DO180 and EX180 has more content about a local container engine than on Kubernetes so declaring it as a "Kubernetes" certification is not entirely fair. AFAIK the new DO188 keeps the same focus so you really need DO288 after DO188 to develop for Kubernetes. As you really need DO280 after DO180.

I'm not sure my license lasts long enough to get the updates, although it would be interesting to learn what is in the updates. I'm new to openshift, but i have worked with RHEL for years a long time ago so I'm interested in the sysadmin part which would be relevant for me.

If I start the openshift course D0180 in February next year I wonder which exam I need to take in order to get that certification, but I suppose I can contact the certification team or use the feedback button on the course to ask about that when or if the time comes. I need to pass a couple of exams before that can happen.

Fernando is correct. DO180 is not going away. DO188/EX188 is for OpenShift developers.
