NEW COURSE: Red Hat Services Management and Automation (RH358)

Red Hat Enterprise Linux includes essential network services that are ubiquitous in the enterprise data center and provide mission critical support services.  These common services are fundamentally important to support the enterprise servers and applications that businesses and organizations rely upon for their day to day operation.

They include functions such as:

  • Fundamental support for DNS name resolution and DHCP address management.
  • Basic server email support for notifications.
  • File- and block-based storage management.
  • Basic operation of web servers, databases, web caches, and load balancers that support business critical applications.

Furthermore, automated management of these services is critical as trying to manage many servers manually can be error prone and costly.  Automation with Red Hat Ansible Engine is a key component of service management, enabling automated configuration and management of tens or hundreds of servers in a scalable, repeatable way that ensures consistency and improves reliability. Automated management is critical to properly integrate the functions provided by these services into DevOps practices, including continuous integration and continuous delivery workflows that reduce downtime, improve consistency, and control costs.

This course is based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.1 and Red Hat Ansible Engine 2.9 and is a RHEL8 replacement for the "Red Hat System Administration III: Data Center Services" (RH254) based on RHEL7.

RH358 is considered a sequel to RHCE certification on RHEL 8 as shown in the learning path below.

Wonderful news! I love how this course is incorporating automation using Ansible engine, I know a lot of folks who will get value out of that.

Hi,

So specialist in ansible automation certification will be based on the new rh358 instead of old do407 ?

My understanding is that the RHCE on RHEL 8 is assumed to replace the old RHEL 7 Red Hat Certified Specialist in Ansible Automation certification, since RH294 covers the same scope as DO407 but on newer Ansible and RHEL, and this course assumes that incoming students have that basic experience with Ansible. This allows this new course to spend more time focusing on the services themselves and not on Ansible fundamentals.

If and when there is a certification offered with this course, that would presumably be a new specialist certification.  However, exactly how such a certification would work is up to Red Hat's certfication team.

Hi,

I am trying to start a lab for RH358,

but it never gets "created".

i.e. After clicking "Create", it just hangs showing "building" for all the VMs.

Is it only me, or can you check on your side?

Thanks

Hi,

I was afraid that the skills tested in EX300 being lost.
Now, I am pleased to see them renewed in this new EX358.

I will definitively add that in my next months plans for certification renewals.

As the course/exam covers a wide variety of content. I was just wondering if the documentation available in the exam will cover both RHEL and Ansible?
