Integrating ROSA Applications with AWS Services

April 25, 2024

Course Overview

Integrating ROSA Applications with AWS Services (CS221) teaches how to integrate applications deployed on ROSA with AWS services in a way that cluster administrators and platform engineers retain control of credentials and roles required by applications to access AWS services, instead of exposing those credentials to application developers.

This course is based on Red Hat OpenShift Service on AWS (ROSA) 4.14.

Topics in CS221 include:

  • Integrate with external container registries such as ECR and Quay.io to deploy applications from private image repositories.
  • Configure storage classes to enable application access to different EBS volume types.
  • Configure storage classes and security contexts to enable application access to shared EFS storage volumes.
  • Configure pod identity using STS/IRSA to enable application access to AWS services such as database (Aurora), integration (SQS), and object storage (S3).
  • Provision AWS services for applications using the AWS Controllers for Kubernetes (ACK).
  • Federate and query application metrics (application workload monitoring) with Amazon Managed Prometheus Service.
  • Aggregate and query structured application logs with Amazon CloudWatch.
  • Configure custom domains and TLS certificates for secure public access to applications.

CS221 is a follow-up course to CS220 (Creating and Configuring Production ROSA Clusters) and the latest component of a longer ROSA-centric learning journey. CS221 uses the same private ROSA cluster created in CS220 to demonstrate an environment which is representative of actual customer environments, addressing typical concerns with the security and confidentiality of applications and data on AWS.

Students enrolling in CS221 are expected to have completed CS220, to have prior experience with both OpenShift and AWS, and are encouraged to also enroll in the OpenShift Administration learning path (DO180, DO280, and DO380) to learn administration skills that apply to all editions of OpenShift: self-managed and cloud services.

About

Are you interested in integrating applications deployed on a private ROSA cluster in a way that allows cluster administrators and platform engineers to retain control, instead of exposing those credentials to application developers? Red Hat Training and Certification’s new course, Integrating ROSA Applications with AWS Services (CS221) is now available.

The Red Hat managed OpenShift course (CS221) focuses on how to deploy applications from external registries, provide amazon storage volumes for applications, configure application access to AWS services, expose applications to internet users with secure URLs and much more.

Before enrolling in this course, review our complimentary course, Introduction to Red Hat OpenShift Service on AWS (ROSA) (DO120) to build your knowledge of Red Hat Managed OpenShift as well as Red Hat Certified OpenShift Administration (CS220).
