DO280 ch03s05 Lab is not working

Jump to solution

I am unable to start or make progress in the CH3 Section 5 Lab in DO280. Even though login says its successful, the OCP cluster doesnt think i am logged in and I am unable to create secrets or do tasks to complete the CH3 Lab.

I have my DO280 exam in less than two weeks and am frustrated with not being able to complete the Labs and struggle to learn how to configure identity providers. Will this section not be on the exam and can I skip it due to the lab not working? How can I fix my issues quickly without having to restart my lab environment? (It takes almost 25 minutes just to be able to start a lab).

@tanaysrivastava The lab is working perfectly fine :

If you want to redo this lab specifically, I recommend you to rebuild the lab so that you get a fresh lab to try  Configuring the HTPasswd identity provider, create groups, and assign roles to users and groups ( in an old lab, lab finish sometimes cannot remove what all trial and error exists in that lab cluster ).

Yes, the OCP cluster will take 20-30 mins approx to get ready with all its components before you can send any request to the API ( and that is same for all OCP courses ). Please start your lab well in advance to accomodate for this time so that by the time you start working , your OCP cluster is ready. You can check whether your cluster is up or not by :

1. ssh to the utility VM from workstation VM  as lab user -      "ssh lab@utility"
2. On the utility VM , run the command - " ./wait.sh --wait " . Wait for the script to finish running . Once all the components are ready, you can start with the lab start script on the "workstation" VM. DONOT run any lab script before your cluster is fully up.

For EX280, we cannot comment on what is there and what is not apart from the Exam objectives that is already available in public : https://www.redhat.com/en/services/training/red-hat-certified-openshift-administrator-exam?section=o...  and you can easily see the above mentioned lab tasks as an objective :

@tanaysrivastava -

So to know what is on the exam, you should always check the current Exam Objectives for the course you are taking in order to better prepare for an exam. The EX280 exam in this case covers contents and knowledge that is obtained from both the DO180/DO280 courses.

The lab takes anywhere from 20 minutes to 30 minutes to come up typically as we are using a Single-Node Openshift (SNO) setup and it take  a while for the VMs and all the OCP containers to startup.

It might be helpful to provide more context around your errors and also if you are following the solutions to complete the lab exercises. Keep in mind, you must be logged in with users with the correct permissions (authorization) to create secrets, so while you might be logged into OCP, it is possible you authenticated with a user that didn't have the correct rights. It is also possible that you aren't using the correct OCP project for the identity provider. If I remember correctly, you are supposed to be creating an HTTPassword file for setting up the identity. When I taught the course, I showed how to do it the CLI way (like the lab), but I also often provided a demo on how to do it with the OCP WebUI.
