Discrepancy Between Video and Material (ch07s08)

If you are following along with the video instead of the material in section 7.8, you may run into a snag.

In the video on creating a new disk, the instructor asked you to:

1. Enter newtempdata for the name
2. Set size to 2 GIB
3. Set StorageClass to nfs-storage
4. Set Access mode to Shared access (RWX)

So far at this point, this matches with the material.

However, afterward, the instructor skips the part of clearing the setting Apply optimized StorageProfile settings, before clicking on save (in contrast, the docs tell you to clear the setting). As it turns out, if you don't clear the setting, the VM will stay on the provisioning state for a very long time. In fact, it may never exit that state.

I rebuilt the lab twice before I noticed there is a difference between the material and video. Once I cleared the setting per doc, I was able to complete the lab.

For those taking the course, be sure to keep the doc open when following the lab. For the course maintainers, you may need to annotate this errata in the video so that other people don't run into the same snag.

I didn't follow that approach as it actually looked unrealistic.
After changing the StorageClass nfs-storage to be ReadWriteMany, I cloned the disk and then just powered off the vm and replaced the disks.

In real world, you can't take the risk of just swapping disks hoping there is no informantion on it - so cloning was the most reasonable approach.

I don't disagree that it is probably not recommended practice. However, this is not about whether this is the right approach to swapping disks - the point is that the walk-through missed a step in the video and if you are following the exercise alongside the video, you will get stuck and you will get frustrated as it won't immediately be clear to why you can't move forward.
