DO378 v2.7 EA version 1 release!

Hi Everyone!

We are happy to announce an Early Access (EA) release of DO378: Red Hat Cloud-native Microservices Development with Quarkus. This release includes the following completed chapters:

Chapter 1

  • Describing Microservices
  • Microservices Architecture Patterns
  • Introducing the Red Hat Build of Quarkus
  • Setting up the Developer Environment

Chapter 2

  • Managing Application Configuration in Microservices
  • Developing REST based Microservices
  • Data Persistence with Panache
  • Building Native Applications with Quarkus and GraalVM

Chapter 3

  • Testing Quarkus Microservices
  • Testing Microservices with Mock Frameworks
  • Testing using Testcontainers

Chapter 9

  • Comprehensive review
    • NOTE: This includes content that will be taught in upcoming chapters, but challenge yourself and give it a try

What do we need from you?

Check it out and provide feedback! We’re publishing this in chunks to help make it worth it for you to spend a few hours of your valuable time and provide feedback. This is the only way we can make it better before the GA version is released. Three chapters seems like a reasonable amount and we’ll try to keep it around that size for the next EA releases.

You can find the Early Access version here: https://rol.redhat.com/rol/app/courses/do378ea-2.7

What kind of feedback do we want from you?

  • Identify things that are broken and don’t work in GE & Labs
  • Identify things in lectures that are wrong or unclear
  • Identify and flag superfluous content that can be removed
  • Note how long it takes you to finish an exercise or read a lecture
  • Does the overall flow work and do the topics as they are grouped in chapters make sense?

You can provide feedback in a couple of ways:

  • Use the big red FEEDBACK button in the course (preferred)
  • Respond to this thread or email

On behalf of the team, I can promise you that we are listening and will respond to all issues. There is always a chance of a WONTDO or NOFIX in the response, but it will be discussed with a reason behind it. The reason might be something as practical as us not having enough time or being forced to make a trade-off with the included content. Don’t let that discourage you, though. We don’t know what we don’t know and having your perspectives and feedback is essential.

You should upgrade the exam too. It is outdated. Quarkus version is stil 1.7! Btw, exam costs 400+ $. We deserve more than some outdated exam for that money!
