Can I Use an Android Phone to Access and Manage a Red Hat Server via SSH?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for a way to manage my Red Hat server remotely, and I was wondering—can I use my Android phone for SSH access and basic server management?

Here’s what I’m specifically trying to figure out:

  • What are the most reliable and secure SSH client apps available on Android?

  • Has anyone here successfully managed RHEL systems from their phone? What were the limitations?

  • Are there any best practices I should follow to avoid breaking things when using a mobile terminal?

  • Is it safe to do package updates or system changes from an Android SSH session?

I’m often on the go, and having mobile access to my server could be really helpful for quick monitoring and emergency fixes. Would love to hear your experiences or recommendations.

Thanks in advance!

Hi @jessicashepherd

I use termux ( https://termux.dev/en/ ) sometimes to have access to main system in extra situation from my phone. I could not recomment this option for regular use. Small size of terminal and network stability is most critical limitation. Here is example of ssh connection:
