EX280 I cloud not create any pods

I just tried the Openshift Ex280, and I had an interesting error. All my pods that were created were set to pending since all my nodes were configured with a taint: Noscheduler. Why is that?

I tried using oc adm uncordon, but that had no effect, so had to edit the nodes and comment out the tainted part. Also, all the deployment of applications where using deploymentconfig and not deployments. What is the point of only testing the ability to configure applications with this resource?

I thought that was part of the test to either remove the taint on the nodes or add tolerations to the deploymentconfigs. I took the exam last week and passed but my scores were very odd.. one section was scored as 0%. I was able to validate all but one task where I was unable to get a response from the application.

Yeah it was the same for me. Scored 0% on Configure pod scheduling, but all but only two tasks where not responding.

Hi, I had recently the exam, and I had the same issue. I am not happy with Red Hat. The content of DO280 traing course is not matching the EX280 exam. I do not know why Red Hat has not updated its exam. It is unfair of people have spent moeny and time on DO280.

Out of curiosity, did you find any objective not listed in the Exam objectives in https://www.redhat.com/en/services/training/red-hat-certified-openshift-administrator-exam?section=o... ?

Basically the exam objectives are the ones ruling what is part of the exam and what is not. Training contents are only orientative, but the final list of topics are only included in the Exam objectives of any Red Hat certification (frustratingly as it is).

Personally, I would not like it if Red Hat only asks ( like a copy paste ) what is being taught in courses and it's lab exercises and does not make it challenging, yet being formed around the objectives it listed, - that is what is all about troubleshooting and being an Openshift administrator.

Having said that - it is still my personal view and in no way I am trying to undermine anyone else's experiences and expectations !

Hi Chetan_Tiwary, thanks for your comment, and I agree with what you said. However, it is not only some content not matching, but also the exam not updated.

I am not sure how far or detailed I can put here, but what I can tell you is that the exam environment is using some old object/concept which are not even mentioned at all in the DO280. The DO280 does reflect the new vesion of openshift, but not the exam.

Basically, I not against that the exam should be wider than the training course, but using an outdated concept or object that are not used anymore is not fair for users who have been working on the course.

Hi Chetan_Tiwary,  back to the original topic of this discussion, do you know why it is deploymentconfig not deployment during the exam? we have been practising on deployment a lot on the DO280 course.

Hello @Dadaniao1 !

I do not know why it is what in the exam and cannot dicuss anything related to it due to the NDA clause.

However, I can say from my perspective ( strictly my personal view)   that it will not affect much-  my troubleshooting -  if I see deploymentconfig instead of deployment as far as this exam is concerned. For example - If I can troubleshoot on RHEL9 I can very well do the same in RHEL8 or 7 as well. If our minds are tuned to see one thing and suddenly some other thing for example older version of some resource comes in front of us - it should not hamper our learning / troubleshooting skills. Because I have worked in a K8 production environment and it is not always updated to the latest version.

Even if it was deploymentconfig or deloyment in the exam - it won't create much difference (to me).

I suggest you to write to : https://www.redhat.com/rhtapps/services/comments/ for an answer to your query.
