Hello all,
It may sound unimportant but to me it's really something that irritates me. It through me off in my course progress too. I'm talking about new TOC layout that learning courses have.
The old one was simple but was doing exactly what it was suppose to do - show you your course progress. Such a simple yet important tool.
New layout is missing this key feature - showing overall course progress while clearly indicating what was not visited. New navigation is more "complicated" and requires more clicks to get to what old layout was doing effortlessly. It intoduced effort somewhere where was none. Almost change for the sake of change.
I wonder if I'm the only one thinking this ..
Thank you everyone for the feedback! Please keep it coming, as this is how we will improve on this feature.
Easy to access navigation - We have added to the settings, the ability to make the Table of contents "map" sticky. If you go to the Settings, and change the TOC setting to "Minimized" you will get this feature. Please note, we are aware that the minimized version does disappear after clicking the course content. We are fixing that, and it should be available with the latest release the week of February 17.
Page completion - @Martin Each page you visit should be marked with a checkmark. If you're seeing pages incorrectly marked, please submit a ticket for this so our team can investigate your exact scenario.
Saving the last visited page - This is also a bug we are aware of @ipalagin , and are resolving with an upcoming release. Currently this is also targeted for the release the week of Feb17.
Preserving settings - We are saving the Control bar settings in local browser storage. @Ravi_Shanker are you using a different browser, or deleting the cache/cookies between sessions? If not, please also submit a ticket with your username so we can investigate this bug.
Community chat - Launching the Community Chat feature from a course with an associated Learning Community group will provide access and details for 3 of the latest discussions, as well as the group itself. To access the group simply click "Discuss [Group name]" at the top of the pane that opens.
Thank you everyone for providing your opinions and suggestions. We will continue to update you on fixes when they are released, in our Release Notes blog.
@martindxc Noted, thanks for your additional feedback. We changed this UI due to customer feedback about the course experience, as well as a need to streamline the course functions into a standard solution. Hearing similar comments about the loss of the progress map is leading us to adapt and improve the minimized version to get us closer to something that works in this new UI, while providing the solution you enjoyed in the old UI. We'll continue to work on it based on this feedback.
@Ravi_Shanker yes, the Incognito browser will not save your settings from one session to the other. Chrome is supported, but I am interested why you stated that Incognito is the "best mode".
Also, I want to share with everyone here that the release for the updates mentioned above will now be the week of Feb 24. There are a few additional features we want to include, and this will push us back slightly. I will post the release notes once complete and available.
@martindxc Thank you for your feedback! I will surely pass this on to the concerned team.
However, if you click on the TOC button, you can see the progress % at the top right corner of the mini dialog box along with your completed sections in green and your current section with a dotted blue centred circle :
It doesn't always work as it should. I already finished chapter 6 and yet I see sort of swiss cheese:
This TOC is missing what the original had - efortless navigation and ease of conveying the information. As a gadget in airplane - you look at it and you immediatelly know what's going on.
I would not mind having this TOC as a secondary navigation option.
Now I'm using paper notepad/pencil and marking my current position down every time.
I do appreciate you letting the dev team know. I'm not getting my hopes up but feedback is important.
I don't like new interface either. With the old one, upon launching the lab I was on the page where I left last time. Now, I have to search for the page to continue if I forget to make a bookmark.
One more issue is the settings for control bar preference on the page. Each time after login I have to change it from bottom to top as that is where I wish it should be. It does not even preserve that settings and requires it to be done at each login. The community chat button does not open the community page. One has to make at least 3 clicks to actually open the page in a new tab. I have the community page bookmarked in my browser. Could not care much of this feature.

Thank you for the answer.
Well, yes, you can have a smaller TOC the way you described.
But:
This progress but is painfull to use. Why did you have to change this at all? I need to click/move the progress bar to get any sense where I'm at (horizontal scrolling is almost never good). Sad thing is the old one was so simple and good. But for some reason it had to be changed to something worse.
>Why did you have to change this at all?
In my long IT career, I learned that vendors break things which just worked because of the same reasons: due to customer feedback and to streamline experience. How about making OpenShift lab to start instantly, within 1 min? Nah, it's boring and difficult! Let's fix the GUI!
Getting labs to start quicker is definitely something we're always working on. Within 1 minute for OpenShift - that would not be boring, but you are correct that it is a challenge. Rest assured that our teams are constantly working on optimizing lab environments, in addition to improving the GUI. Thanks again for your feedback!
I am using Chrome Browser in Incognito. It is my understanding this is the best mode and supported browser. If this is stored locally in cookies then it won't work in incognito mode.
Thanks
