I didn't want to start a new thread since this is such a stupid question.

If I have a valid RHCSA and RHCE, how many specialty exams do I need to pass to have the RHCA?

I always thought it was three since the RHCSA and RHCE count towards the RHCA but now I read in two places that it's the RHCSA, RHCE + five others?

Yes, I have looked at https://www.redhat.com/en/services/certification/rhca?pfe-gnwil7q1k=rhce

It reads like you need five certs beyond RHCSA and RHCE but how does the RHCSA and RHCE count towards the RHCA?

Thanks.

In order to hold an RHCA certification, you need to have a valid, non-expired RHCE, plus five (5) valid, non-expired certifications that contribute to RHCA.  This has been the case for as long as I've known the program, probably 15+ years

If you have an application development background, don't hold the RHCE, but hold valid, non-expired RHCEMD or RHCCD certifications, you can also pursue these 5 exams instead instead:

---------------------------------------

To attain and maintain RHCA status, an RHCEMD or RHCCD must pass at least 5 of the following exams and keep the associated certifications current:
EX240 –Red Hat Certified Specialist in API Management
EX248 – Red Hat Certified Specialist in Enterprise Application Server Administration exam
EX280 - Red Hat Certified OpenShift Administrator exam
EX288 –Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Application Development exam
EX328 - Red Hat Certified Specialist in Building Resilient Microservices exam
EX374 - Red Hat Certified Specialist in Developing Automation with Ansible Automation Platform exam
EX380 - Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Automation and Integration exam
EX427 – Red Hat Certified Specialist in Business Process Design exam (Retired)
EX440 – Red Hat Certified Specialist in Messaging Administration exam (Retired)
EX453 – Red Hat Certified Specialist in Fast-Cache Application Development exam (Retired)
EX465 – Red Hat Certified Specialist in Business Rules exam (Retired)
EX447 - Red Hat Certified Specialist in Advanced Automation: Ansible Best Practices exam (Retired)
EX480- Red Hat Certified Specialist in MultiCluster Management exam
EX482 - Red Hat Certified Specialist in Event-Driven Application Development exam

---------------------------------------

I was wondering about the RHCA requirement.

It says: "RHCEs are free to choose any combination of certifications within the RHCA in Infrastructure list, and earning five or more certifications from the system administrator list in the Skills tab allows candidates to become a Red Hat Certified Architect in Infrastructure."

Is it correctly understood that I can choose any five certifications and I will become an RHCA if I already have the RHCSA and RHCE?

Could I for instance take one certificate from the "Open hybrid cloud program" and four from the "Linux mastery program"?
