Hello, I am new to this community as well as being new to Red Hat and Linux in general. I have undertaken both the RH124 and RH134 over the past 2 months. Whilst my knowledge base of RHEL has vastly improved and I have learnt a great deal, I do not believe I am anyway near ready to undertake the RHCSA Certification Exam. Any advice and guidance exam preparation and committing the command line functions to memory would be much appreciated. I am mainly having difficulty with the more complex command line functions such as script writing, running and managment of containers, managing network attached storage with NFS and firewall functions.

Cheers

Hello @SAMSCHUEY !

Welcome to the community and thanks for reaching out !

The courses RH124 & RH134 is a very good recommended source for the RHCSA EX200 exam. It is ok to be a liitle bit skeptical / nervous about one's own preparation before actual exam - trust me it happes with everyone

If you want - there is a preliminary exam PE124 ( https://www.redhat.com/en/services/training/pe124-preliminary-exam-red-hat-system-administration-I )   which you can take to assess your preparation. This exam is not an actual EX200 certification but a preliminary exam ( without any certification ) for practice. This will give you fair idea about exam and your preparedness and will help in enhancing your confidence.

Post that - you can focus on the real EX200 exam. For that always refer the official objectives for preparing : https://www.redhat.com/en/services/training/ex200-red-hat-certified-system-administrator-rhcsa-exam?... .

Locate the respective topics and practice till you are confident about them.

Read the instructions carefully and understand the requirements of the question.

Remember not to do any spelling mistakes and the configuration must persist after reboot !

Try to do the labs at the end of every chapter ( that has grading ) independently and see what sort of grading is happening - when the grading is all pass and when it is a fail. Work on those scenarios, troubleshoot the errors yourself , try to read the logs for a configuration or a service issue and use man pages wherever necessary.

You can refer this community for many helpful topics and posts by various learners - one such helpful post is here : https://learn.redhat.com/t5/Platform-Linux/Why-am-I-failing-my-RHCSA-V9-exam/m-p/35520#M2014

For any particular topic or any lab - if you need any help / clarification or you have any doubt - please feel free to ask in the community - we all will definitely help you !

Hello @SAMSCHUEY

Welcome to the Red Hat and Linux community! It's great to hear that you've completed RH124 and RH134 and are now considering the RHCSA (Red Hat Certified System Administrator) Certification Exam.
Here are some tips and advice to help you prepare, especially regarding complex command line functions, scripting, container management, NFS, and firewall configurations:

First, ensure you're familiar with the specific objectives and skills tested in the RHCSA exam. This can guide your study and practice.

The key to mastering Linux, especially for the RHCSA, is hands-on practice. Set up a lab environment where you can freely practice command line functions, write scripts, manage containers, and configure network storage and firewalls without any risk.

Don’t overlook the importance of man pages and official documentation. They are invaluable for understanding commands and options.

Make a habit of regularly revising the commands and concepts you’ve learned. This could be through daily or weekly review sessions.

For NFS and firewalls, start with basic configurations and understand each step and option. Gradually add complexity as you become comfortable.

Learn to manage your time effectively, especially for the exam, as it is performance-based and time-limited.

Spend extra time on areas where you feel less confident, like container management or NFS.

Ensure you’re well-rested and not stressed when you approach the exam. A clear mind can significantly impact your performance.

Remember, it's normal to feel not entirely ready for an exam, especially one as hands-on and practical as the RHCSA. Keep practicing,(Guide Ex, Lab) and don't hesitate to reschedule the exam if you feel you need more preparation time. Your journey in learning and mastering Linux is a marathon, not a sprint. Good luck!

This community is a great resource with numerous insightful topics and posts from diverse learners. You'll find a notably useful post right here for additional guidance and information.

@SAMSCHUEY I completed my exam yesterday, and I want to assure you that it simply requires more hands-on experience. It's straightforward, so there's no need to stress out.

Thank you all for the great advice and the kind words of encouragement. This has been heartening as I have gone back over the comprehensive reviews for both RH124 and RH134 and have been able to understand where the knowledge deficiencies are. So as all of you have advised me, it is now a matter of regular revision and experience.
