Red Hat remote exam on AMD

Hi!

Anyone here had success with AMD processor  ?

In below pdf, Red Hat says many intel ... what about AMD ?

System requirements
-  Computer: You will need a computer with a single active monitor. Red Hat supports
many Intel-compatible X86_64-bit architecture computers.

https://www.redhat.com/rhdc/managed-files/tr-remote-exams-preparation-ebook-f27382-202103-en_2.pdf

When I tried compatibility test on my AMD Laptop, even after 1 hours it just hangs at 100%, same USB stick I tried on intel machine it works! unfortunately intel machine is having some other problem, so I can't use for exams.

Please refer my post for more details.

I have HP Pavilion AMD Ryzen 7 5800H 15.6 inches(39.6cm) FHD Gaming Laptop (16GB/512GB SSD/Windows 11 Home/NVIDIA RTX 3050 Graphics/MS Office/ Shadow Black & Ultra Violet/1.98 Kg), 15-ec2146AX

Unfortunately these are onboard graphics no provision to disable in BIOS.

I tried all available remote exam iso, nothing is working. Nearest exam centre is 700km away from where I am living it's not feasible at present for me.
Exam vouchers expiring this month end.

@PetrCihlar

What is the timeline or expected release of the new ISO? This quarter? Next quarter? This year? Next year?

I see this issue goes back at least two years now...

Hi RedBat
We have been testing a newer version of the ISO that includes some improvements. I am uncertain about when the feedback we provided to the developers will be incorporated and the ISO will be released. I speculate that it will likely take months rather than weeks.

New and old image are both not working for me on my desktop (Ryzen 5800X3D). They get past the 100% screen but then I get a splash screen with Fedora and a spinning circle, the spinning circle eventually disappears and nothing happens after that.

AMD and Intel both manufacture CPUs based on the x32_64 architecture, and they are compatible. However, a computer is not built solely with a CPU. There are other components, and it's important to consider their compatibility as well. By the way, my computer, which is equipped with an AMD Ryzen 3 processor, can boot the RE ISO without any issues.Screenshot 2024-08-28 at 8.22.17 AM.png

Red Hat employee here, with a company issued ThinkPad that is AMD on the inside. I had my proctor/support person just cut my test short because the the environment just hangs my laptop and I have to reboot to reconnect. After the third time, they just said "You're done!" and ended my test. I had to beg to get them to at least grade what I had done.

I guess the good news it does boot on an AMD system. Stability beyond that is .... unknown.

Yes I also lost hope, seems like Red Hat team is least bothered on this problem. In past I raised ticket for problem no positive response for the same.

It is not about AMD processor, as it is matching the requirements to have x32_64 architecture. It has been explained many times here. Many computers can successfully boot and work on AMD. However, there are many GPUs (video cards), support of those (drivers) are often problematic in many linux distros. Not very computer is compatible due to its GPU and chipset. It is not a problem of AMD, it also applies to newer computers built on Intel. I think we cannot expect a newly released computer model to be compatible with Fedora 37 that was released in 2022
