Oh my... Where to begin... OK:

  1. A little bit of an "older" processor: Intel i5-7500 quad-core
  2. 64Gb RAM
  3. 137.5 Tb total storage across thirteen SSD, M.2 NVMe, and spinning drives - internal and external USB
  4. LG Blu-Ray
  5. Asus DVD
  6. two sound cards: Sound Blaster Z (playback) and Sound Blaster X-Fi (recording)
  7. built-in gigabit Ethernet and built-in wireless
  8. two Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 video cards
  9. two 24" ASUS LCD wide screens
  10. Main OS: Windows 10
  11. Virtualized OSes: RHEL 7, 8, 9; Kali 2022.2; Rocky Linux 8, 9; CentOS Steam 8, 9

A full-tower case that I purchased in 1999 - it still has an original Pentium III sticker on it. (Wow, I just realized that my computer case is literally 23 years old - older than most of the students I teach. "Listen here sonny, I have working computer parts older than you!")

The best thing about working remote is being able to take my workstation from my office, my kitchen, my yard or a local park! Today, I'm soaking up the last few days of summer with my office windows wide open, with a cool breeze and some fresh air. Some of my favorite items in my home office include photos of my loved ones, an indoor plant and my monitor filled with exciting projects for Red Hat Academy!

I look forward to hearing what others have in their workstation, and by then I may be taking my next meetings from my porch!

Okay, I just recently built my new workstation. Here are the specs:

AMD Ryzen 5900x

64 GB of Kingston DDR-4 3200 ECC ram (yep, running ECC on a consumer board)

ASUS x-570 Tuf Gaming Pro Wifi board

EVGA RTX 3080 FTW

2 TB M.2 NVMe

2 x 6 TB Toshiba NAS drives in RAID 1

ASUS BluRay Writer internal

PCIe firewire expansion card (for editing old movies off VHS-C and 8 mm tapes)

2.5 GBs internal NIC

1 Dell 1440p 27" monitor--main display

1 Dell 1080p 27" monitor--secondary display

Windows 11 main OS with RHEL, Fedora, Rocky, and Ubuntu in VMs and customized for various operations

This all backs up to my Synology four port NAS with four 10 TB drives with parity on; containers used on it and running my own Plex server on it as well

Raspberry Pi 3 running PiHole for my network's DNS
