How can I safely resize a root filesystem on Linux without rebooting?

Hi everyone,
I’m running a Red Hat Enterprise Linux server and need to expand the root (/) filesystem because the system partition is getting full. I’ll be moving from an older, smaller LVM volume to a larger one. What’s the safest step-by-step process to resize the root filesystem without rebooting, including backing up, adjusting LVM, expanding the filesystem, and verifying everything works? Thanks in advance!
