Is changing of hostname via nmtui no longer supported in RHEL 9.3?

Jump to solution

Was doing RH199 guided exercise and its about changing hostname via nmcli, i tried doing it via nmtui but wasnt able to make it persist. After reading docs, it mentioned manual /etc/hostname file are not longer picked up automatically by NetworkManager and will need to use hostnamectl utility. So for RHEL 9.3 , i cant use nmtui to change static hostname and make it persist? hostnamectl is the only way?

RHEL 9.3, the method of changing the hostname via nmtui (NetworkManager TUI) has been removed, and it is no longer supported.

Why is it removed?

RHEL 9.x (and more recent versions of Red Hat-based distributions) has shifted to using hostnamectl as the primary tool for managing the hostname, including changes for both static and dynamic hostnames.

The recommended way to change the hostname in RHEL 9.3:

You should use the hostnamectl command to change the hostname in RHEL 9.3.
