Weird... I mean, they've been going this direction for 2 or 3 years now. I was blown away when they open sourced .NET core. But I guess this is reality now.

I disagree. Red Hat and Microsoft have been partners for years.

Also, anyone who has been a consultant for 10+ years already has realized that there never really was a war.

Partners for years, yes. But let's not overstate the love. Microsoft is only feelin' the love these days because they finally realize that there're things that Linux and open source do better than they do, and they don't want to be stupid again.

It was not that long ago that the CEO of Microsoft said, "Linux is a cancer that attaches itself in an intellectual property sense to everything it touches." A cancer!

Microsoft certainly waged war on Linux, tens of millions of dollars worth of war, and I can tell you that Linux users waged all the tiny war efforts they could muster back.

So let's raise a toast to those days being gone, but let's not pretend that getting here wasn't bloody.

Really? What about the Halloween documents? They initially went with attempts to shut open source down by using FUD and the Embrace, Extend, Extinguish methodology. The documents are linked to this wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halloween_documents

While it's great to see them embracing Open Source now, I'd say they were definitely at war with it until they saw the benefits of joining the movement.

i'm still sceptical about this. Microsoft stated earlier that it does practise a divide and conquer strategy. I couldn't find the exact name for it but it boils down to this.

I will believe it as soon as I see "Microsoft Exchange Server for Linux" on sale next to "Microsoft SQL Server for Linux".  In the mean time, I'm a little skeptical of most things Microsoft does. All we can do is wait and see. But just in case, I got an RHCE and a MCSE. Just sayin'

I think being a hybrid is a good thing! Spread out your options to both Windows aswell as Linux.
