RH124 Chapter 15 Section 5 Error

Jump to solution

I would like to ask for assistance regarding the error my team encountered on Lab Review: Manage Network. Upon creating a static network, the Terminal freezes and about a 10mins of waiting, an error saying: "Timeout, server serverb not responding." came out as a return. (Please see attached image for reference) Thank you.

@Ralph09

Thanks for reaching out.

1. The lab instructions did not include a step to SSH into "serverb." You were attempting to establish an SSH connection to "serverb" with the intention of testing the static IP configuration from the workstation. It's worth noting that in all the previous labs, the typical pattern involved initiating SSH connections from the workstation, which has become a familiar routine for students.

This is the reason why.

The lab content has an "IMPORTANT" note which states: "In this review, open the serverb machine console to adjust the networking settings."

Additionally, Step 1 specifies: "Use the system console to log in as the student user on the serverb machine, and switch to the root user."

2. First step >>

[student@workstation ~]$ lab start rhcsa-rh124-review4
3. Second step >> In this review, open the serverb machine console to adjust the networking settings.
Use the system console to log in as the student user on the serverb machine, and switch to the root user.

Hello @Ralph09 !

Thanks for reaching out and letting us know about the issue that you are facing.

No worries - There is an important note given in the section which tells you to open the serverb console directly and adjust your networking settings there :

You can do 2 things here :

1. Directly open the serverb console from your lab environment tab and then do the lab tasks there ( which are required to do in serverb ).

2. If you have used ssh to do the tasks in serverb then do the step 3.2 directly in serverb console ( through the serverb console in your lab environment ) :

The best way is mentioned in point 1 above i.e do all the tasks related to serverb in the serverb console directly ( without connecting to serverb using ssh from workstation ).

Please let me know if you still face any issue in this case.

Thank you so very much for this.  It was helpful.  Two consoles must be opened:  one for the workstation and one for serverb.  Trying redhat or student for passwords helps; however, the login name is hit or miss.
