RH134 / RH199: RHEL9.0 Lab reset root password using rd.break not working

Jump to solution

I followed the steps in the document, but I was asked to give the root password.

Here is what I did:

1. On the Grub menu type e

2. Append rd.break to the end of the line starting with linux

3. Hit Ctrl+x

It boots to this:

Give root password for maintenance
(or press Control-D to continue):_

Any tips, please!?

On the real exam, you need to select the rescue kernel in the grub (with your arrow keys) before pressing E.

Please do be careful about sharing information about the actual exam. Disclosing such information is a breach of your NDA.

it's not a secret to use rd.break to reset the password.  Literally every training course teaches you this.  The problem is that it does not work in rhel9 and you have to use the rescue kernel, not sure why, but its either a bug or it seems like they are trying to sell more retakes.

My issue is not with people discussing rd.break or init=/bin/bash. That's standard fare, as you point out.

My issue is with people literally saying "this happened to me in the actual exam" and "same happened for me in the actual exam". This is very clearly signalling at least one of the questions to expect on a test, which is in breach of the NDA.

And as you have just pointed out rd.break is standard fare, I'm failing to understand your point.

You are making things more difficult, by including NDA. Would it not be more consistent and persistent to solve a solution rather than repel or bore him with law. What is good in you apart from your patience and kindness? You are the kind of person that gives a company a bad name when you have answers or wont give it cause you think your comfort is more superior than that of others.

Solve the problem and then advice the candidate, in a closed or open manner. Is it right to loose out even if you are a first time RED HAT exam taker? Be sensitive cause you will work for someone who will pay you according to the character, value, and relationsip you have with them.

The objectives actually stipulated what the topics they want solved for exam takers to adhere to if they want to pass. You should be a manager and an ambassador of Red Hat and performance-based exams all at one go. In life and every thing man creates the fundamental principles starts with patience. Just as many dont know how to decipher their bibles, but preach and put weak minds into more trouble, you as an intelligent and reasonably wise teacher and doer should uphold the principles and not stand by a shield. There is a verse in the bible that says "Love is patient and kind." In whatever you do remain favoured according to your response, both in your patience to your patient resilience and kindness to others.

Be quick to hear, slow to anger and slow to speak. It makes human. The only good thing, like I said earlier is your default patience and kindness. There are layers to patience you dont know but it is implemented this operating system and others. After all, a community is a group of people, living in one place, and having the same interest. Adhoc situations requires reasonable solution for the best. I like RED HAT for the perfomance based exams, but are even more in love with their products. Be a gatekeeper.

Peace be unto you.
