RHCE is not easy!  I've been working with Linux & UNIX for around twenty years.  A coupe of years back, I thought I'd go and get my Red Hat certs.  I signed up for the RHCE course and scheduled the RHCSA & RHCE exams on Friday.  Took the RHCSA and just killed it... IIRC I got 287 / 300.  I thought it was pretty easy, and was feeling strong!  Sat down for the RHCE, and started to sweat a bit!  I used all of my time and thought I'd failed.  I didn't... I did OK.

My advice is to study and know the learning domains.  Pay attention to everything!  If they mention it, count on it being on the exam.  And just knowing those requirements isn't enough... you'll get some random, generic tasks that you're just expected to know how to do at that level.  RHCE is not a "paper cert"... the only way to pass is to really know your Linux!

@John_Oliver good reply - I love your show! ;-)

THE RHCE exam EX300 is one of the toughest ones out there, and as such, my respect goes to anyone who has passed it. I'm an RHCA level XIII, and I've taken many exams. It ranks up there as the most testing.

One additional element to be mindful of is time management, don't fall into the trap of spending too much time on a single question.

Use the documentation to your advantage - you don't have to remember everything.

Gauging your own success is simple, e.g., if the exam said "Create a directory called /foo", you'd know that you're successful if you see a directory created after running:

ls -l /foo

If it says "No such file or directory", or if the value of the first bit is not a d, then you didn't satisfy the objectives of the question.

Creating /foo is not good enough ;-)

It's a great exam - good luck with it!

@ricardodacosta

RHCA level XIII? I mean, that's RHCA level thirteen?

Now that's an achievement!

Nah Red Hat Certified Architect level XIII :-)

I've dropped a level since - everyone who passed EX333 many years ago, had the exam expire on Monday. It's no longer current, and cannot be renewed.

I have 3 more exams in my pipeline but I just don't have the time to prepare for them.

@ricardodacosta

Sorry, I don't get it. You've just repeated the same.

What's "RHCA level XIII" in plain English? Because XIII does look like 13 to me :)

I only repeated it because you said RHCE level thirteen ;-)

When you're an RHCE, and then take 5 specialist exams, you become an RHCA (level 1), from there, every specialist exam will increase your RHCA level.

@ricardodacosta

I did say RHCA, and then when I wrote "RHCE" there was obviously a typo (I fixed it already).

So you are RHCA level thirteen? :)
