kvm gest tools on RHEL5

Jump to solution

I'm using RHEL5 as a KVM virtual machine

Are there any guest tools for kvm on RHEL5?

Even if I check the REDHAT download site,

there is an agent for RHEV-M, but it seems that there is no one for KVM

Any information is welcome.

I've been having a look at this and I don't think the kvm guest agent was ever created for RHEL 5. There's a version of ovirt-guest-agent that can be downloaded from EPEL5 but I don't think it'll do. Plus I've been having some issues getting it running on a RHEL5 system running in new KVM, so.... it's dead, Jim.

@INAKA : if you want to have a go, here's the repo I found. But I don't think it'll work for you. Good luck! https://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/archive/epel/5/x86_64/ovirt-guest-agent-1.0.13-2.el5.noarch.rpm

Hi @INAKA ,

Thanks for reaching out !

Any particular reason for using RHEL 5 which is already End Of Life ? because of EOL , there may not be any tools available on the RH site for RHEL 5 related stuffs.

Hi! @Chetan_Timwary_

Thank you very much for your reply

Any particular reason for using RHEL 5 which is already End Of Life ?

Due to certain circumstances, I have to migrate RHEL5 in the VMware environment to the kvm environment. And RHEL5 cannot be upgraded for some reason,

because of EOL , there may not be any tools available on the RH site for RHEL 5 related stuffs.

But , i can download RHEL5 packages from below REDHAT site

https://access.redhat.com/downloads/content/69/ver=/rhel---5/5.6/x86_64/packages

best regards

They're prolly looking for something like these -> https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_virtualization/4.3/html/virtual_machine_manage...

But yeah, that page also only mentions versions 6, 7 and 8.
