Does anyone know if new VM's have been created for the new RH124/134 content for use in netlabs?

Hey Everyone,

I was just in contact with the person I request VMs from for use in netlabs (CSSIA). I was asking if new versions have been created to cover the new version of the course materials that we can use in a netlabs environment.

The latest version available was Version: 3, Build: 2023072803.

Before I put in the effort to adjust my course structure, I'd like to be able to have those VMs in place. The netlabs environment just gives me a few extra elements to help my students (like live help as I watch them work a lab)

Thanks!

tl:dr - I believe "no".

I am unclear whether you're asking if images are available for VMs from Red Hat Academy that might be loaded into Netlab, or if you're asking whether NDG has worked their magic on the new material & published that work.

In either case, as far as I can tell, "no".  The 9.3 courses (RH124 & RH134) are available to select from the course builder

but is not available in the img library on RHA.

I also checked on the NDG downloads page yesterday, and 9.0 was their latest. With the changes in VMware, I wonder if NDG will be working on this at all - I suspect all their resources will be tied up in making the VMware>Proxmox changeover. I hope I'm wrong!

Thanks Andrew,

I was asking about the latter (NDG, and magic),

NDG is definitely under the gun to shift to proxmox and may not have the time or resources to build a netlab custom VM.

You can definitely get the 9.2 version from CSSIA, though, The NDG "pod" is just a shell to seat the VM into since all the labs are started from a single host with the rest of the network infrastructure virtualized  (KVM??) to mirror the topology on RHA.

I thought that a group of faculty at ECU were the dedicated folks that built the NDG netlabs compatible Red Hat VMs, but I don't know who to contact to ask.

They then passed it to CSSIA to curate.

I just don't know if they are still doing that.

Anyone have a contact at ECU that might be able to ask about this (or share with me and I'll inquire - however you want to share) ?

Hi – The instructions for deploying the RHEL v9.3-based course have been updated on the learning platform and were shared with NDG some time ago:  https://rha.ole.redhat.com/rha/app/resources/installation-and-troubleshooting-guides file 0-Introduction to RHA DIY Labs-20241024

Tudor

Thank you!

Just posting to confirm that I can see that file (the link doesn't work, but we can click through and the file name helps to locate the right link in the platform) and the image file(s).

Wonder where NDG is on it. We can circle back with them, but I don't know if they're going to have a product released in time for Spring.

Thank you again @TudorRaduta !

I was in contact with NDG this week and their goal is to have version 9.3 ready in early January 2025. Whether that will be just before the semester start or later.... I don't have a good read on that just yet.

I think my solution is to prep my course in anticipation that the Netlabs build will be deployed on or shortly before the semester begins. BUT, to also have a backup set of instructions for students to use the RHA resources until Netlabs is ready. Depending on how far into the semester that happens, I switch them over or finish out that section.

Wha'ts that principle on access? Least priv? I'll use a "Least disruptive principle"
