I'll be attempting my RHCSA next week. Since RHEL 8 beta is out, how soon will it be before certs for RHEL 8 be available ? Would it make sense for me to wait for RHEL 8 certs to be available or go ahead and attempt RHCE for RHEL 7 in 2-3 months as I initially planned ?
I would suggest that do not wait for RHEL 8. go for RHCSA/RHCE on Rhel 7 .
A bit of a history. RHEL 7 was released in June 2014. RHEL 6 training and RHCSA/RHCE exams were available for purchase through February 2015. In other words, Red Hat gave candidates 8 months to purchase exams for RHEL 6 after RHEL 7 was released. On top of that, candidates were allowed 1 year from the purchase date to take the exam on RHEL 6.
Having said that, I think it’s safe to say that you’ll be able to take the exam on RHEL 7 until at least the end of this year. If you want to be certain, then purchase the exam on RHEL 7 now, by doing so you will be confident that the exam will be on RHEL 7.
Flight Engineer,
thanks for the information above - I have purchased the RHEL 7 EX200 exam in November 2018 and was slightly worried it could be switched to RHEL 8 content before I sat. Interestignly, I used the RedHat Portal to submit this basic question to RedHat Traning x 2 - no response. I also emailed the APAC RedHat Training Centre I had previously exchanged emails with asking if I am guaranteed to have RHEL 7 content on my individual Exam even after RHEL 8 is release- no response.
But I do get sales calls from RedHat all the time, sadly for Redhat I have no budget or influence where I work
Cheers
Basically the way I understand it is RHEL 8 Exams will be available starting June this year, RHEL 7 exams will still be available until June of 2020. You are welcome to certify in either until that time and they will be valid as if you had taken the latest one. Hopefully this helps answer any of your questions
Cheers Blake -this makes it clearer, the point I am interested in is the ability to purchase the exam and have 12 months from that point to sit Versus the last date you can sit the actual RHEL 7 Ex300 exam
Can you clear this up - June 2020 cut off - means you can no longer sit after this date or does it mean June 2020 is the cut off to purchase the exam and if you purchase just before June 2020 you would still ave until 2021 to sit (12 months from the exam purchase)
I am probably going to have to make a big decision about what to speand all my spare time doing - Training on RHEL 7, then missing the exam and having to retrain on RHEL8 and start with RHCSA, then RHCE on 8
From what I understand Andy the test is available to take until June of 2020 after that date it will be required to get the RHEL 8 certs
does RHEL provide delta exam between 7 and 8 or it's a completely new exam?

The exam is the exam. If you want to be certified as an RHCSA on RHEL 8, you would take the EX200 on RHEL 8.
From the release of EX200 on RHEL 8 it does set a timer on the availability of the exam on the previous version, RHEL 7 in this case, of typically one year.
There is no exam targeted at "differences" though there is a public course available, "RH354: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 New Features for Experienced Linux Administrators," though it does not target a certification exam like the RH124/134 or RH199 courses do.

Hi Team,
Is there any information about RHEL 8 exam release date.
I have 3+ years expirence in Linux. Shell i take RHEL 7 exam or can i wait for RHEL 8.
RHEL 8 exams should be released early June from my understanding. You can still take RHEL 7 for another year beyond that.
