RHEL 8, RH134, Chapter 9, Section 1 - fstab option that maybe shouldn't be used?

In RHEL 8, RH134, Chapter 9, Section 1, it has this:

I've never used the soft option and wondered exactly what it did. So I went to the man pages -- and guess what? It isn't there. So I went searching on the internet. I found many places that recommend against using this option as it may cause loss of data (definitely not a good thing).

I also found this, on Red Hat's own site. Granted, it was written when RHEL 5 was out (other references on other sites were much more recent):

Is it still not a good idea to use soft in RHEL 8? Have the potential data loss issues been mitigated?
