How were you introduced to open source technology?

I took a job as a web coder over 20 years ago, and they needed someone else to know how to modify the Apache httpd settings for our web server. I volunteered to learn and thus started my path into the world of open source.

How were you introduced to open source technology?

I worked for a non-profit educational organization, we wanted to do #something# but couldn't afford the software/licensing/support of the current mainstream way of doing things...linux to the rescue.. ~1995

What does Open Source mean to you?

The WW IT Community is working and develop a lot of things, WW Brainstorming has this result, the Open Source world, First you find it interesting, then you want to try it, you gather experience, learn a lot and return to the community by developing something better or a new thing. That's the magic of OpenSource.

How were you introduced to open source technology?

I was first introduced open source in College. I took a C++ introductory course and there was an opportunity to take a Linux workshop. The instructors gave us a custom Fedora image to work in our lab environment and taught us the basics and commonly used commands.

How were you introduced to Open Source technology?

When I was in college around 2009, I took a Linux course and absolutely fell in love. That same semester my love turned into a career as I was able to get a job learning and supporting Linux for a well known Linux firewall and appliance company in Michigan. This opened my eyes to the world of opensource, where I thought software was just from businesses, which is further from the truth. Opensource software is from the community for the community and the possibilities of what can be done is limitless.

How were you introduced to open source technology?

I was introduced to open source technology when I joined Red Hat as an intern last month! I had never heard much about open source, so this is a pretty new experience for me.

RHLC June Challenge: What career did you want as a child and what are you doing now?

As a child, I always wanted to be a pilot. However, after taking a pilot ground course in high school, I realized that flying as a career was not as interesting as I had thought. Right now, I am in college double majoring in mechanical engineering and computer science, and I wish to do something w/ a heavier focus on computer science / software when I graduate. I am currently a software engineering intern at Red Hat working on OpenShift!

What would you like to see in a learning community?

I would like to see an active community where people are free to ask questions and get help. I think the ability to get help or ask other types of questions (and receive prompt responses) is very beneficial to learning and also very motivating.

How were you introduced to open source technology?

Around 2001 I was working at the time with Windows NT and I had to support a server with a web page. When logging into the server via SSH, I saw that it was a server with OpenBSD, I had to start learning BSD and Apache.

Two years later I was abandoning everything that was Windows application server and dedicating myself to learning everything that worked on the Linux platform, starting with servers with the old Mandrake, today OpenMandriva "https://www.openmandriva.org/" and servers with Red Hat Linux.

Today I work in the company of my dreams, realizing a dream that emerged in 2001, came to be strengthened in 2003 and prevails until today.

How were you introduced to open source technology?

By 2003 there were people around me talking about something called virtualization (I was 13 yo.), so it called my attention. I learned everything I could through a lame internet conection (ADSL). I wanted my first VM, so I crossed my path with Ubuntu (very light ISO I found somewhere). I installed it, tried it and it started my way through numerous distributions of Linux and thus my open source journey.

How were you introduced to open source technology?

Setting up my first homelab relied heavily on open source technology - both in terms of cost and in terms of documentation. Some of the best documentation that I've ever encountered came in the form of commentary from peers - often going above and beyond what could be expected from a vendor. Throughout the years, as I've been more and more involved in enterprise configurations, I've continually been impressed with the continued longevity of open source software - especially in contrast to closed source counterparts.

Open source to me is the epitome of evolution in technology. There are many facets to it, but overall with the altruistic intent of most contributors we will continued to head towards even more exciting advancements in the future. When were children we were told to share things so that others could also participate and enjoy life through collaboration, and in modern times to me participating in open source environment is so similar. I am by no means tyring to trivialize what we do, but where also can you go and contribute an be a part of something so cool?

1. What does Open Source mean to you?

A. Open Source to me is the millennial and modern power of global IT capabilities brought to the fore-front of enterprise and commercial business. The true democratization of the internet and emerging innovative technologies, supported by a worldwide community of open source contributors.

2. What would you like to see in a learning community?

A. I would like more access to certification training paths and classroom-led (or virtual) support to prepare for and pass RHCSA/RHCE, etc. exams to help develop my implementation skills.

3. How were you introduced to open source technology?
A. I was first introduced to open source technology through Git in collect as a source of collaborative technology.

4. RHLC June Challenge: What career did you want as a child and what are you doing now?
A. I think I wanted to become a meteorologist as a child and am now working as a Technical Architect in Enterprise Solution Architecture and Pre-sales. I think my childhood goals are semi in line with the work I do now, because I'm still in a very analytical and technology based career

5. How to learn configuration YAML files

A. The best way I've grown with YAML config files is by running through the variety of Ansible workshops on RHPDS and going through training courses to learn the structure of YAML

6. Introduce yourself to the community:
Hello All! My name is DJ Tucek and I'm a Supervisor of Technical Architects working for a Red Hat Premier Partner Reseller known as Softchoice. As a TA, I'm an expert on explaining and demonstrating some of Red Hat's flagship products and implementing architecture and solutions in the enterprise space. I live in downtown Chicago and love spending as much time as possible outside in nature!

7. Share your 2022 Learning Goals
A. My biggest goal in 2022 is achieving RHCSA/RHCE certifications to help push for Kubernetes exposure

8. What are the most effective ways you adopt Open Source technology?
A. For me personally, playing around with various projects or technologies in Github has been an effective source of knowledge for me. Outside of this, just play with new technologies! Build out your own computer, try to build an application on a Raspberry Pi, etc.

3.- I was introduced by a fellow classmate, back in 1997. He invited me to talks given by his boss, a computer engineer and matematician, who teached about Unix philosophy and C programming. There I found other guys, most of them from the Fidonet community, and with them started the Uruguayan Linux User Group (UYLUG) and begun to user Linux and Open Source.

Q. How to learn configuration YAML files

It is pretty simple, if you have python basic you can learn very easily. That's how I learn it. YMAL file is chain of  key-value pair . We can use YML lint tool to verify YMAL code plus n number of article or blogs available on Internet.

No announcement was ever made as far as I am aware, neither for this 100k contest nor the previous 50k one. Weird.
