Possible to purchase individual lab hours

Jump to solution

After you buy a RHLS Standard can you also buy extra lab hours? I am sometimes very slow with how I learn so I may need to buy more lab hours. I find when people take 10 hours to learn something it sometimes takes me 15 hours as an just an example.

Thanks for reaching out with that question @ShawnR . We do not currently have a way for students to purchase additional hours. What I will say, is that our students rarely meet the limit, so although you note it may take you more time than a typical student, it still may not reach that threshold. Please reach out to our support team, or myself through the community if you find that you are going to hit your limit, and we can see what solutions we can come up with from there.

That's a very good point @ShawnR.

To me, 400 lab hours is not enough to prepare for 5 exams (and possibly 2 re-takes), as included in the RHLS Standard, especially on subjects you are not familiar with.

As an example, I consumed 108 hours studying DO425 and preparing for EX425, which I eventually passed after one first attempt and one re-take. Also, I spent some time taking note of labs' bugs to help the community.

Besides, the more advanced the course is, the longer the lab environment takes to start and stop. For example, my current course DO447's lab environment counts 11 systems and takes about 15 minutes to start up entirely.

Some labs' start script also takes 15 to 20 minutes, for example Jenkins-related labs in DO425.

In the end, I feel like about half of my lab time is wasted. These extended periods of labs' provisioning / start time also raise the following dilemma : should I stop my lab between two guided exercises ? I do so because I want to save my lab time, but I have to say that it's pretty annoying and time-consuming.

I have suggested here that the number of lab hours be increased to 500, which would be better. It should be an acceptable compromise for Red Hat if most students do not even reach the 400 hours limit as @cschunke stated.
