Re: RH442EA - Red Hat Performance Tuning

Jump to solution

Hi @littlebigfab

I am also preparing for EX442. And thank you for reminding me about autoconnect-slaves 1 option.

But in my case over the RH lab environment - I have an issue - the slaves are starting, but the team0:link is not ready, and it cannot start the interface after the reboot - it is in DOWN state but slaves are up

Do you have any insight, where is the problem?

in dmesg I have following after the reboot:

team0: Mode changed to "activebackup"
team0: Port device eno1 added
IPV6: ADDRCONF(NETDEVCHANGE): team0: link becomes ready
team0: Port device eno2 added
team0: Port device eno1 removed
team0: Port device eno2 removed
IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEVCHANGE): team0: link is not ready.

It confused me. I've set autoconnect on team0 interface as well.
I believe it is due to the lab environment - as I see that before team0 is starting, I have following entries in dmesg
hiddenbr0: "port2(eno2-port) entered blocking state
hiddenbr0: "port2(eno1-port) entered disable state

Hi @kpietras,

Sorry, no, I did not encounter such issue at all.

I tried to assign the team0 ip address either at the team0 device's creation or afterward with 'nmcli connection modify'. Both methods worked immediately and were persistent after reboot.

However I read the following in the RH442-8 manual (p. 390 of the pdf) :
"Note that the ipv4.addresses have to be assigned before the ipv4.method can be set to
manual."
I did not understand the reason for that note. Setting 'ipv4.method' was not necessary in my lab environment, but maybe it is in some other lab environments, depending on the cloud provider ? I'm wondering.

Please keep us posted!

@littlebigfab

While running the review lab, I've noticed that I missed the ipv4.method manual.
Once I added that the team0 interface was able to start with an IP address after the reboot.

Not sure why is it needed since I've added the ip address manually. Maybe it is related to the fact that eno1 and eno2 are connected to an invisible bridge hidden in a network namespace.

So as you said, depends on the cloud provider/hypervisor I believe.
How is your preparation for the exam?

Thanks for the help!
And best regards

Hi @kpietras Smiley Happy

I passed the exam this morning Smiley Happy

Unfortunately, it was a do-over. My first attempt was last week and I scored "only" 200/300 Smiley Sad
I was very disappointed because I had prepared well and I was able to complete all labs and guided exercises of RH442-8.

EX442 definitely is a difficult one !

Good luck if you're taking it too ! Smiley Wink

@littlebigfab

The same case here. All labs performed well, but the results after one exam were not so good : )
But I will fight for this. Your results are optimistic. Congratulations!!!!
That is impressive.

I would like to attend the retake, but there is no free spot in Poland for kiosk exam for the next two months. Not sure what I will do.  Other case is that I have few exams left from subscription which is expiring in June and probably I will be unable to use it due to lack of free spots.
