Hello Red Hat Learning Community! My name is Christopher Schunke, and I am the new Product Manager for the Red Hat Learning Subscription (RHLS).
While I am relatively new to Red Hat products and services, I have spent the past 13 years in the IT training industry, working primarily in the Online Learning space. I hope to bring that expertise to the training platform and to the learning subscription. What I'm most excited about, is now having a direct line of communication to our users! In the spirit of Open, I'm excited to be a part of this community to gather your ideas and feedback on how to make RHLS successful for you and your training goals with Red Hat products. I will also be available to help the community work through issues, feedback and comments related to RHLS.
I am thrilled to be a part of this community, and look forward to building the Red Hat Learning Subscription with you!
This is what I learnt not so long ago.
There are two different URLs because there are two different products. The Basic Sub uses a different domain compared to the Standard Sub.
The rol.redhat.com is for the Basic Sub, that's why the content is more limited, and it is not possible to schedule exams (there are no exams included in the Basic Sub). The Standard Sub is built upon a different platform, this is the reason the lab hours are not available through standard reports.
Thanks @Lisenet, I didn't know either. It makes sense
Even though I have a Standard Subscription, I still use rol.redhat.com all the time and I still think its ergonomy is way better.
By the way, I just had to schedule an other individual exam, so for once I went to the Standard Subscription site, just a moment ago. Among my legitimate Red Hat trainings, I can see items like "non-started
Red Hat Learning Subscription Standard (LS220)" and "non-started RHLS Early Access". This really doesn't make any sense to me (I have started both, and I wouldn't expect those to be listed as regular courses anyway).
Anyway, I looked up my next exam in the top-right hand corner search field. It returned the very same individual exam... three times ! (on top of several classroom exam sessions) I registered for the first one, and yet I still couldn't find my way to schedule my exam. Out of frustration, I registered for the second one, then I remembered that there was a third website, the Individual Exam Scheduler, where registered individual exams do not immediately appear, but eventually do.
Now I've had two sessions of my exam in the Individual Exam Scheduler and I can't remove one myself, I'll need to contact Red Hat support to do so. Also, it is still unclear for me if you automatically consume one of your two re-takes (as included in the RHLS Standard) when registering for the same exam again.
Incidentally, some exam centers do not appear on the map and in the 'locations around you' in the Exam Scheduler, until you look up for the exact name of the exam center (ex: Paris exam center -> appears only after looking up 'startx').
As said, there's room for improvement with regards to the user experience !
Always wait after enrolling for an exam. From my experience, it takes time for the system to update. And you are right, you cannot un-enroll yourself, you need to contact Red Hat support in this case.
I take it that you have 3 exam attempts remaining on your RHLS (this would imply that you have taken 4 exams already).
It's just my observation so don't take it for granted, but when I started with RHLS, I saw 7 individual exams listed. After taking one exam the count dropped to 6. At the moment I see 2 individual exams listed, simply because that's how many takes I have got remaining on my sub.
With regards to the Exam Scheduler, in my case none of the UK based exam centres apprear on the map. I always have to type either "Manchester" or "London" to be able to schedule an exam.
I switched from rol.redhat.com to http://training-lms.redhat.com becuse I couldn't launch courses (enrollment error - it just stopped working one day). I raised ticket with the support but there was no response for few days and sudenly it started working fine after few days but I've already liked rol.redhat.com more, mostly because it has that nice simple view of all available courses.
Few days ago my progress tracking got wiped off from rol.redhat.com. Support replied to use training-lms.redhat.com. But looks like percentage progress for path&course is not tracked correctly there as well (maybe it needs more than 1 day to update) and still I have a problem with launching some courses - enrollment error, but it works fine on rol.redhat.com.
Those are minor issues, but in my case it makes rol.redhat.com more user friendly.
Besides that - courses content is really GREAT, including videoclasses
I am having a Red hat subscription and am difficulty in satellite serrver subscription -- I am not been able to see the check marj after selecting Red Hat tools for 6.2 - says here is an error attempting to retrive the repository - Pl advise
Please work to add current certifications information, an additional TAB 'certifications' with the user certification map, and recommendations/alerts, for example:
1. New version of your 'Performance Tuning Certification' available - click to enroll / click to open course ,
2. EX288 recommended for you after your EX280 achivment - click to enroll / click to open course .
3. Your EX403 will be non-current in 6 months - click to enroll
4. Invitations for RHCAs - for example to renew RHCE to new major release , or as Openshift specialist - please try our new course / new exam . keep in touch always with the users so they will recieve helpfull information and recommendations for their roadmap all the time.
5. RHCAs view for their levels with timeline of non-current dates and more, so it will be easy to track and maintain.
Also, it will be good if you'll add some voting features to gather online information from users, for example:
1. objectives they want to deep dive more
2. ideas for new exams, 4-5 options, for which one you will attend? (and keep the user notified about your proccess with this + send invitation when exam released)
3. after taking exam, you can ask the user for feedbacks.
In conclusion - i wish to see RHLS portal more user friendly with more focus on the user and his certifications + more AI . currently i feel the portal is very static (for example we need to go 'early access' page to see new content , instead of recieving push notifications).
Wish you great time in your new role , and enjoyable time with us
Kudo for those great suggestions !
Further recommendations/alerts may be related to automatic certification extension, like:
And I'd add the following key information on the top-right hand corner of the website:
