Re: Red Hat Learning Subscription Product Manager

Hi Christopher. Thanks for helping me with DO288 lab provisioning issue. There's still some bugs in the platform. e.g.: The progressive bar which tells you where you "are" within the content is not working anymore. It oCaptura de pantalla 2019-10-03 a las 15.40.52.pngnly worked the first session. It's a little bit annoying because everytime I start a session I've to start in the last recorded progress (14%) and now I'd be around 20%...Captura de pantalla 2019-10-03 a las 15.39.33.png

Thanks Smiley Happy

@josemdiaza With the latest updates to the subscription, are you now seeing the fixes on DO288?

Re: Red Hat Learning Subscription Product Manager

Hi Christopher,

The content is great, and the labs really help. A lot. But the user experience could use some improvements. A few things off the top of my head:

1. As a European User, I would like to provision labs in a nearby geographic location, so that I can get decent latency. Currently, trying to use the US labs makes every single keystroke a 2-second pain train, and graphical interfaces, unusable. => Allow me to control the region where I provision the labs! People travel too, and this is very handy!

2. As a Linux user, I would like to use SSH to access labs, so that I can use keystrokes I am familiar with. Ravello/VNC is a pain to use and familiar keys such as ^W (erase the previous word in shell) now close my browser window...

3.  As a learning subscription user,  I want a single interface: http://rol.redhat.com - not the unusable http://training-lms.redhat.com - and be able to book my exams and track the progress of the course and video at the same time.

4. As an accreditation completionist, I would like to track my course completion publicly, using Acclaim open badges.  I would like to track all Certifications, Accreditations, and Courses through a single digital credential system.

5. As a certification taker, I would like to be able to transfer my certification/merge accounts without having to mail support. When signing up for RHLS, I somehow ended up with a separate account, under the same email as my certification account.

6. As an RHAA pursuer, I would like the limit of certifications, PDF downloads, and lab hours to be increased.

7. As a certification taker that uses standard US keyboard layout but happens to live in Ireland, I would like the option to book a certification exam using a US keyboard. I don't care about the letters drawn on the physical keyboard, just selecting the layout when starting the exam. It's not fun when # becomes £ ;-).

8. Video playback speed and volume normalization. Example Example: https://rol.redhat.com/rol/rhz/rhls/course/do407-2.7/ch03 where the speaker is extremely slow, or 294 where the speaker is very loud shouting at various times making headphone use uncomfortable.

Thank you!

PS: Just passed RHCE this morning via EX294. Brilliant work - I loved it! I have some comments on the overall testing process for individual exams (logistics), but sure if I should post here.

Re: Red Hat Learning Subscription Product Manager

@josemdiaza Thank you for bringing those issues to our attention. We've got a ticket in to our team to address the progress on DO288. That is certainly a platform problem we need to address.

@cmihai Thank you as well for your comments. I'll try to address each one.

1. Adding @Forrest for questions regarding labs.

2. See above

3.  We are moving closer to releasing our updated user interface for all subscription tiers of the Learning Subscription. You will soon have the single interface with access to exams for Standard users that you have requested.

4. We couldn't agree more. Our teams have plans to bring this unified experience to RHLS.

5. I believe this was resolved here.

6. We understand, but there are no plans currently to expand the caps on exams, downloads, or lab hours. Throughout your RHLS journey, have you found that you've reached the caps on any of those features?

Re: Red Hat Learning Subscription Product Manager

Thank you!

I'm thrilled to watch this community grow - and I'm very impressed with the rich technical content and brilliant labs behind the (arguably clunky/disjointed) interface experience! I've managed to catch a glimpse at the unified learning you've mentioned at one of the RHTE events, and it really looks promising!

I've added a #7 - selecting a keyboard layout during the exam, as I found that challenging. Having to look for keys during the exam is a bit tricky. For individual exam takers, there are no options to pick a keyboard layout, so in Europe that can be... a mixed bag.  £ isn't much use when you need a # - and booking a flight isn't really an option ;-).

Re: Red Hat Learning Subscription Product Manager

@cmihaiWe normally do provision the labs in close proximity to the users, but sometimes, the location of the user is not correct.  Can you tell me where your labs are currently being provisioned?  We may be able to solve that problem for you.  Please connect with support and provide your redhat.com account name (the username you use to log in to RHLS), the courses you are taking, as well as the region to which you are currently getting assigned.

As for SSH access, I absolutely agree--in most cases, SSH is the best way to get to your Linux environment.  We have been working on enabling this for years, but we do have some intellectual property concerns to address.  I'm hoping we'll have a solution this coming year.

Re: Red Hat Learning Subscription Product Manager

Thanks! I'll connect with support.  Published region: US Central 1 (tried RHCSA RH199 and 294 they all provision to US). My Location: Ireland. I've also checked the postal address and timezone under my Account Details, and those look fine.

Support == https://access.redhat.com/support/cases/#/case/new (this seems down right now.. will try chat)
