I have a standard RHLS subscription. I am an RHCA that took RHCSA/RHCE a while gao.
I now want to access the course guides for the newer RH194/RH294 and do NOT want to download them. I just want to peruse the books using the bookshelf.
When I go to the bookshelf, it asks if I want to "claim" the book. I am not sure if should say yes as I am not sure if that would count against the limit of "10" books that RHLS provides.
As per Gemini, the limit should be ONLY against the downloads. So if I claim and do NOT download the book, am I OK?
What is a "claim" really? Is it only to give view access to the claimed book in booshelf?
Red Hat support does not seem to understand my question at all.
Thank you

Yes, a "CLAIM" in bookshelf claims the book for a specific course. This is basically saying I want this book for this course. Once it is "claimed" you have access to the ePub and can download that as a PDF. Also, once it is claimed, your available book downloads would be reduced by 1. So it does in fact reduce the number of books by one. Since you have access to the HTML version of the book, I'm almost sure it reduces the download count by "1" as it assigns it to your bookshelf since that is an application outside of RHLS so it isn't the act of the download that deducts now, but claiming so that is available in bookshelf.

Thank you, Travis. Finally, someone who understood and addressed my question.
Yes, as you have indicated I have access to the HTML version of the book (along with the videos) for all courses offered in RHLS. That's good enough for me.
I don't want to use up my "claims" only for the convenience of the "bookshelf"!
The bookshelf concept is new and came after I had RHLS the last time.
Thank you

You're welcome. One thing to keep in mind, Bookshelf is how you can download the PDFs like you used to or download the ePub file that could be used for offline reading. The ePub can be used on eReader devices like iPad, Kindle, and other devices and of course the PDF can be used on any of those devices. You will still be able to use any and all courses and access the HTML items, but you can only CLAIM and DOWNLOAD a total of 10 course student guides.
