Hello,I've prepared the USB key with the remote exam image. Just to make a quick verification, I made an attempt using it on my business machine, a Thinkpad P50. After disabling Secure Boot on BIOS, it starts loading but when it reaches 100% it is freezed.

Using the same USB key on my personal laptop (an old Samsung machine with i5 and 8GB) it is instead able to complete initialization and also shows the configuration editors.

Wondering whether the P50 may have any other BIOS setting that may prevent the correct initialization of the image. It starts loading and shows the splashscreen, so it is not an issue with bootloader or UEFI/Legacy config.

HDD is encrypted, but I don't think this can be an issue considering that the USB is

expected to load everything in RAM and internal disk should not be used at all.

Any idea about how to further debug ?

The alternative would be to use my personal laptop, but the camera is really poor and keyboard is also not working that well...I would prefer to fix the problem on P50 and use this one for the remote exam...

Thanks

Aldo

Hi Aldo,

This exact same issue was reported for the ThinkPad T470 model here .
(I recall someone reporting the same issue for the ThinkPad T50 earlier but can't find the link now now.)
We have reported this to the devs but I don't have any fix yet.
If you want to test using the same device, the only workaround I know is to use the older version of the ISO - https://static.redhat.com/downloads/training-certification/rhrexboot-2020-08.iso (See this)

Hello,

I am unsure if your specific keyboard layout is available but you may choose among the list of supported KB layouts while booting into the remote exam ISO. (The required KB layout can be chosen at the settings menu right after the remote exam image loads into memory - https://youtu.be/LX3VMIAuPzg?t=345)

Hi @nelson1478 ,

Please see the remote exam FAQ - https://www.redhat.com/en/resources/certification-remote-exams-FAQ

Question: What if there is a power or network outage during the exam?
Answer: If network connectivity problems arise within the first 30 minutes of the exam and you are unable to resolve them, you can request to discontinue and reschedule your exam attempt. If you are able to resolve the issue quickly, you will be able to resume where you left off once you boot to the live USB and connect to the exam environment.

Beyond 30min, the proctors will work with you and take a call as needed. With that said, please see this thread - https://learn.redhat.com/t5/General/Questions-about-getting-ready-for-your-Red-Hat-remote-exam/m-p/1...

Hello Everyone,

Does anyone figure out how use the "remote exam live ISO" on a macbook pro 13 2020 ??? I'm aware some older models work...

After changing some security options in the mac I'm able to boot into the live cd but some essential functionalities don't work while doing the compatibility test (sound for example show's a "Dummy" soundcard, wifi not detected, ...).

Is this issue being handle by the support team in order to allow the use of more recent models? Any workaround / fix for this?

Thank you !
Marco

Unfortunately it didn’t work out for me as well. Used a pc instead.

Waiting for Res Hat team to come up with a solution for this as MacBook is
a common workstation with everyone and this is a serious blocker for
attending RedHat remote exams.

Hope for the best

Hi,

As per the techincal document I've to boot my laptop using rhrexboot.iso but its not working for me. however rhrexboot-2020-08.iso works well. So can I take remote exam on 2020-08.iso or I have to use only latest iso ?

Hi @Vishal_S,
It should work as per my experience (tried this 2 months ago and was good)
but better wait for the Red Hat moderator to confirm.
