Any more assertive predictions of when the exam below will be available to be performed remotely?

Hi @Auria,

Unfortunately, no at this point. We don't have any announcements about a potential testing or piloting of EX248 yet. Nevertheless, our development teams are preparing exams one by one for Remote Exam release and hence EX248 would be taken up in future.

Ways to Test page will be updated with the latest exams set to be released.

Hi,

I have a similar question to Shaams:

1. Are we allowed to use a TV as external monitor (reason: close to router for wired connection on my small portable laptop);
2. If option 1 is not possible; Can I unplug one (of dual setup) my external monitors from the docking station, cover it with a black t-shirt and use my laptop (closed lid), one external monitor, wired keyboard, wired mouse, external USB webcam all plugged-in to a Targus docking station (wireless network connection though -- another room in the house)?
3. If required, are we allowed to take a 'toilet break'?

Thanks in advance.

@rm-rf Hello,

3 - Rest room breaks: They are allowed for a specific duration by the Proctors and from what I gather, they are allowed after about an hour from the exam start.

2. Your setup of using one external monitor, external wired keyboard, mouse, usb key on a docking station seems to be acceptable. A couple of things to note are:

The second monitor has to be removed from the room ideally, but if it is not possible at all, it has to be switched off and properly covered. This will be verified by the exam Proctor during the beginning and in between the exam.

Wireless connection: We strongly recommend a wired connection for better stability. Wireless is not prohibited perse, however it is considered as a second choice due to many variables that can impact wireless performance. I would login to the wireless router and block any other device accessing the internet at the time of my exam. Or simply tell other users to pause the usage during that timeframe.

Using TV instead of a monitor is not allowed at this time. The external display device should be a monitor.

Can someone clarify if all those rules apply to PE180?

Hi @sbulav ,

These instructions/requirements only apply to the Remote Certification exams. The Preliminary Exams(PE) do not require an external camera and run on a full-screen browser on your existing OS.

See more details on PE exams here

Hi

I just tested my environment and had one failed test - microphone.

I have no idea why it's not working - I tried micrphone from my Logitech C920 camera, Logitech headset H390 and Razer headphones with microphone. But still exam test software shows an error - "Microphone volume is too low".

Is the microphone required for remote exam? I will have door closed so no one can enter my room, and as far as I remember there was no such requirement when I had exam in exam center/kiosk exam.

Another question related to RH294 - who should I contact regarding my exam? I don't want to ask these questions in public because of NDA and I'd like to ask someone about few things related to this exam.

Thank you

Piotr

Hello,

Since USB headphones are not allowed during remote exams, you will need to use a webcam with integrated mic. I am using a Logitech C920 HD myself and it's working pretty well with the compatibility test in terms of micropohone volume and video quality.

Please remove all other headphones while testing so that the input source selected is of C920. The settings could look like the attached image, except that I was using a laptop vs desktop.

Mic is necessary for Proctors to monitor  your environment. Testing center setup does capture audio in addition to video.

For questions around EX294,  you can raise a ticket at this link

Is the remote exam environment the same as the lab environment in the online course?  In essenece do I open a workstation window and then get a terminal?  What exactly is being download during the exam.  Are they big files  (like in the Gigabytes) ?

Hello @mendoza1,

The Remote Exam image (ISO) is not the same as your lab environment. You will be downloading an ISO that has to be written to a USB drive and that will make your USB drive a bootable device hosting an operating system. This operating system will be a highly secured, restricted spin off based on Fedora Workstation 32. The size of the ISO file will change with each revision and hence be sure to download the latest version posted in the document attached to this resource in RHLC. As of now, the size is about 1.2 GB.

You would boot to that operating system (Live USB) and login to the exam proctoring portal. You will have access to one full screen window from your laptop/desktop and the exam environment will be cloud-based.

Hope this clarifies.

Regards,

Shefeeq
