Hi,
I tried to boot the Red Hat Remote Exam ISO, to run the compatibility test, but when it gets to the part where it shows the Red Hat logo, the system says that it is at 100% and after like 5 second it displays the following error: "error: ../../grub-core/lib/relocator.c:1439:out of memory." and after a few seconds the screen goes blank and then displays a Kernel panic message: "VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)".
The steps I took to boot the exam environment:
1) wrote the ISO to the USB device on Windows 10 with the Fedora Media Writer
2) tried to boot the exam environment, but it failed
3) re-wrote the USB device on the Windows 10 environment, because I thought something might have happened during the first write
4) tried to boot again, the boot process fails again with the same error
5) re-wrote the USB device, now on a Linux environment, with the "dd" utility
6) tried to boot again the exam environment, fails again, with the same message
The USB device that I`m using is a SanDisk 64GB device; the image, which I`m using, is the rhrexboot-2023-06.iso.
My machine is an older Lenovo Legion 7 gaming laptop with an Intel CPU, 16GB RAM.
In the email that I received from Red Hat it was stated that I need to have a minimum of 8GB RAM, my system has 16GB so I do not understand why does it say that it is out of memory.
Has anybody run into this problem? Does this ISO require more than 16GB RAM?
Thanks in advance for your help.
speakers are not needed, so if you plug in an usb headset, leave it on the desk and use it just as a microphone, you shoudl be fine also with sound. Redhat needs to hear the sound in your room, speakers are not needed as the chat with RH is only written
Hi this image is just a disaster in term of pre-reqs. I created a clonezilla image (debian) and it all work of my 3 computer with graphcial interface where the Red hat exam image is not able to boot.
Please red hat proove yourself compliannt with most today hardware.
Thanks.
Hello @fqueau
I am sorry you have this experience. Did you try to contact the support chat?
What exactly is the issue? Is there any error message? Did you check the Secure Boot in BIOS? It needs to be disabled. What computer models/configurations do you have?
If you post it here, I will try to help you.
Hi I dig a bit and here are my finding: for my T15 lenovo, I have to remove secure boot (again clonezilla was booting without any problem).
With that config, I was able to pass pre-req, only draw back is I have two camera one internal , one external. I c ould not desactivate my internal camera (I plan to pass exam with my laptop closed to use external monitor) . Is that ok for my exam ?
For my home PC, brand new MSI Tomawhak B850 AMD 9700X X, I had to remove my Nvidia 5060TI so it can boot but still it doesn' recgonize my network car. I added to my PC an old Wifi card (5 years old) and it it was not recongized.
Bottom line is the boot image is not at all up to date (from 2023 ?) and does not support a lot of hardware....
Thanks
Hi @fqueau
Thanks, yes, Secure Boot must be disabled. The internal camera is not mandatory, so in case you close the display lid, there will just be a black stream from it. It is not an issue. By the way, the internal camera can surely be disabled in BIOS, but it is your own responsibility; Red Hat cannot navigate you that far. You can just leave it as it is. The important thing is to have the external camera working, being able to make an ID check, and provide the proper view during the exam.
The desktop. Yes, many NVIDIA GPUs are not supported. The solution for you is a USB to Ethernet or USB to WiFi adapter.
The new ISO is on the way, based on newer Fedora, with better hardware support. I completely agree with you, the current version lacks a lot of current hardware
