Hi all,

I am a Red Hat Consulting Architect, based in Switzerland.

My focus is on OpenShift, Integration: Fuse, AMQ, AMQ Streams (Strimzi/Kafka), API management: 3scale, JBoss middleware, microservices.

Sometimes I am involved in customer training, especially with custom consulting workshops outside the Red Hat curriculum.

Happy to connect and to contribute on learn.redhat.com.

Me:  Sr. Systems Engineer

Linux:  Introducedto Linux (Mandrake) in 2000 while on the help desk of a software company as a means to learn more about UNIX so that I could get the right info to the UNIX teams.  Nine months latre, was brought onto the UNIX team and been going ever since.  For work, I prefer RHEL.  At home, it's primarily CentOS with Fedora and Ubuntu mixed in.   Though, I have used SuSE, Deban and Slackware years ago. My philosophy is to use at home what I use at work.

Classes/Certifications:  My first RHEL class and certification was RH133 for RHEL3. Since then, it's been a few work sponsored classes but nothing official from Red Hat.  I'm the perfect candidate for a Learning Subscription since it is very difficult for me to devote a week to classrooms as I have Non-IT work commitments.

Fun facts:  My time is split heavily between IT related work, and being a first responder for the community I live in.  When not doing either of those, or in the gym, I enjoy doing things away from computers: bicycling, archery, motocross, camping to name a few.

I am borrowing this off ricardodacosta a bit :)

Who I am:

I am a Debian based "nerd" (to use that buzzword, but it does apply on several layers) who now, by using Fedora on his workstation and maintaining Red Hat based environments, digs deeper into the Red Hat based world.

Where I'm based:

Basically Manheim, Germany.

My workstation:

For now: HP EliteBook 840 G3 with Core i7 and 16 Gigs of RAM running Fedora (and Debian, Arch, and CentOS inside KVM VMs). In the near future, this will become a Lenovo (nice) with WIndows on it (sucks), due to shifting project policies. That will ban proper Linux testing, to server machines and my private PC, and makes environmental testing harder to achive; but that's how companies work nowadays. See my roadmap.

The discipline I enjoy the most:

Automation, Architectural research and decisions, "DevOps", Security

My favorite toys as a kid:

Ordinary footballs (not handeggs), Lego

Sports I played:

Football (as in soccer), volleyball, basketball, badminton

My Roadmap:

After a long time as administrative support for the Ongoing part of customers and not really being able to develop beyond, my near future now lies within a project that aims at developing XaaS and Managed Services standards and products for customers "based on Linux".
Within the next 2-5 years I am aiming at fully providing people like me with an environment reflecting what they work in - that is, bridging the gap between still using Microsoft technologies but being true to yourself in that you use the technology you work in instead of just switching on VMs for designated purposes. So XaaS and being "the Linux guy" will finally be a holistic approach for me in the long run.

Distros I use or used:

(mostly chronological)

  • Debian
  • Gentoo
  • SLES 10 and 11, openSUSE 42
  • RHEL 6 and 7
  • Arch
  • Fedora (since... 25, I think)
  • CentOS 6 and 7

I'm Linux user since late 2005 (yeah I know, late bloomer compared to several people here :) ).

Hello,

My name is Rudolf Kastl. I currently live in Stuttgart/Germany. I have been participating in the open source community for over 20 years. Working mostly on/with projects that i found interesting myself, like the "wine" project for example. I am still active in several fedora related IRC channels on freenode, when i find the time, and also maintain a copr (copr.fedoraproject.org) repository for fedora, building LLVM and MESA git for recent fedora versions (for those users that like to try out the latest state of 3d accelerated video card drivers on fedora).

My professional career at Red Hat started over 11 years ago as an instructor and consultant for 7 years teaching almost all of the Linux related courses that were available back then. After that i joined the curriculum team working on co-authoring the first cl210 and some of the RHCE courses. Since roughly two years i am the Principal Database and Systems Administrator for our OLE Platform, this is the platform providing the functionality for Red Hat Learning Subscription and Virtual Training offerings.

One of my favourite courses to teach when i was still an active instructor, was RH442 Performance Tuning, as I generally like to analyze and tune systems.

Glad to be here!

Hello all.  I may be a little late to the discussion, but glad to be on board.  I'm a professor in the Computer & Information Technology program at Marshall University.  We have a major with 3 areas of emphasis (web application development, game development, and computer application development) along with a computer science program and digital forensics program.  Looking to incorporate Red Hat curriculum within our Linux course, but also to other faculty and students outside of class.  What are your best practices for getting individuals interested and started?
