Hello nishara,

I have a couple ideas as to why you're having the challenge that you mention,
but I'd rather not speculate.

Answer a couple of questions for me:

1)  What version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux are you using?

2)  What command did you execute to install "pvcreate"?

As soon as you feed me the answers to those two questions, I'll
provide you the solution to your query.

Happy Terrific Thursday!!!

Hi Trevor,

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to my message.

I'm a beginner in the Linux environment and I am eager to learn more about it.

Answer to your questions:

1. I'm currently using RHEL 9

2. I was trying to create a physical volume #pvcreate /dev/xvda1; I found this command is not working and later I solved this problem by installing lvm #yum install lvm2.

Thank you

Have a nice day!

If the command not found, you can also check the pvcreate/any command using

# dnf provides pvcreate

Output example

Last metadata expiration check: 6 days, 0:28:59 ago on Sab 11 Mar 2023 04:10:03 .
lvm2-2.03.11-9.fc37.x86_64 : Userland logical volume management tools
Repo : @System
Matched from:
Filename : /usr/sbin/pvcreate

lvm2-2.03.11-9.fc37.x86_64 : Userland logical volume management tools
Repo : fedora
Matched from:
Filename : /usr/sbin/pvcreate

*I use fedora, so if it's RHEL, it will result in RHEL repo. Just example.

Hello Nishara,

You're a beginner now, but one day, you're going to be providing support to
persons just like yourself!!!  I say that because of your comment: "you're
eager to learn more about it".

Glad to learn that the issue is resolved.

If you don't mind, for others who might benefit, would you mind sharing the
approach you were using to install "pvcreate".  The goal is not to embarrass
you, but merely to educate others who may also be beginners.

Happy Fabulous Friday!!!
