Updated Exam: Red Hat Certified Specialist in High Availability Clustering Exam (EX436)

The Red Hat Certified Specialist in High Availability Clustering Exam (EX436) is now generally available in all modalities.  This exam tests candidates ability to configure and manage highly available services using the Red Hat Enterprise Linux High-Availability Add-on.  This exam counts toward becoming a Red Hat Certified Architect (RHCA).

The exam focuses on the following skills:

  • Configuring a high availability cluster
    • Installing high availability clustering
    • Installing and configuring a high availability cluster either manually or using Ansible
    • Configuring cluster quorum options
  • Configuring cluster fencing
    • Configuring standard fence mechanisms such as fence_ipmilan
    • Testing fencing configurations using standard tools
    • Configuring fencing so that any cluster member can fence any other cluster member
  • Configuring cluster logging
    • Configuring cluster logging so that each node system activity is logged to a separate file
    • Configuring cluster logging so that logging messages will be forwarded to journald
  • Configuring cluster monitoring
    • Creating and configuring a cluster monitoring resource
    • Logging cluster events and send notification emails to a specific address
    • Configuring cluster alerts
  • Configuring a clustered fail-over service
    • Creating and configuring a cluster highly available service
    • Configuring a specific resource group
    • Configuring services to use shared storage
    • Configuring services to use a specific IP address
  • Configuring cluster service behavior
    • Restricting where services run
    • Configuring service fail-over behavior
  • Configuring storage
    • Configuring an iSCSI initiator
    • Creating and configuring shared storage using provided iSCSI volumes
    • Configuring multi-path access to shared storage
    • Configuring shared LVM devices
    • Configuring highly available LVM devices
  • Configuring GFS2 filesystems
    • Creating GFS2 filesystems on logical volumes
    • Configuring GFS filesystems to be shared between multiple nodes simultaneously
    • Managing GFS2 filesystems
    • Adding journals to existing GFS2 filesystem

This exam is based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.3.  Candidates wishing to take this exam as a remote exam or Red Hat Individual Exam Session should register for EX436V83K.  Candidates wishing to certify on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 should register for EX436V7K.
