Best open source tools for technical architecture?

Has anyone here tried what the OP is asking? 

I know people with experience with auto-generating UML charts, through XML or grahpviz, or gaphor and Python, for instance.

Are there any architects or engineers here in the community who have used these tools for architecture diagrams?

I'm giving a kudo on this post because it exposed me to something that is adding to my knowledgebase.  Unfortunately, this is as far as my commentary can go.  This particular domain is outside of my wheelhouse    As always, I'm appreciative of the exposure.
