Hello all,
i’m having some issues with the boot of the Remote Exam Live ISO.
During the preparation for the Remote Exam for ROL Course DO288, i tried to boot my Laptop using the Remote Exam Live ISO. I'm following the docs available here: https://www.redhat.com/en/resources/remote-exams-preparation-ebook.
Downloaded https://static.redhat.com/downloads/training-certification/rhrexboot.iso and written it to USB Stick by using the dd utility.
The boot process is starting until the screen "environment is loading into memory" appears, it counts up to 100% and then nothing more is happening.
I tried different USB-Stick, always the same result.
For tests, i also used the rhrexboot-2020-08.iso Image, which i found as reference in an redhat Issue description, this one is working for me. Boot is without error, and the hardware compatibility checks are successful.
I plan to do the exam soon, thanks to advice how to proceed. I only have one Laptop available for the training/exam, it's a Lenovo Thinkpad P50.
Greetings
Oliver
Audio drivers? Means the internal mic not recognized and the speakers not working? Speakers are not needed for the exam. The internal mic can be replaced by the mic inside the external webcam, a standalone USB mic, or a USB headset.
I also have problems with my P50 Thinkpad laptop. In my case the ISO starts without problem (I'm using the 478157b7675223468d83253a241a1fd5 version), but when I use ONLY my external screen the laptop slows down terribly. If I turn back with the options extended/duplicate the slowdowns disappear. I have tried with two different monitors, but the problem is always there.
Another test I will do is change the hdmi connection to a usb-c / displayport adapter to connect the laptop to my external display, but if this test also fails, could I use the rhrexboot-2020-08.iso image for the exam?
Yes, you can use the rhrexboot-2020-08.iso if it works for you better and you pass the compatibility test. Regarding the slowdown. It is probably caused but incompatible video drivers. The video is not accelerated. Sometimes you can workaround by different way of connecting the monitor and setting the mirror mode. Some laptops also allow swapping the video from discrete to integrated (Intel) video card in BIOS
Thank you for your suggestion, now I have solved the problem. What I have done is to force the use of the nvidia graphic card in the BIOS and change the hdmi input port version of my external monitor to 1.4. In this case I'm able to use the iso image 478157b7675223468d83253a241a1fd5 without any kind of problem.
I have my EX200 REMOTE EXAM scheduled on 12th jan 2023. The current ISO
https://static.redhat.com/downloads/training-certification/rhrexboot.iso is not working on my laptop. But rhrexboot-2020-08.iso works fine. Can I use rhrexboot-2020-08 for giving my remote exam?
Thanks.
yes, you can. Make sure to pass the compatibility test.
Just a little advice. Make sure not to use a mobile hotspot, the upload stream should be. at least 10Mbps for a good experience.
Petr
could you pleaze tell me where could i find the old version of iso ?
Thank you for the quick response sir. I actually have close to 100mbps upload speeds so internet shouldn't be a problem. I also passed the compatibility test on the iso with md5 sum "478157b7675223468d83253a241a1fd5" . So I should use this iso only for the remote exam as it is the latest version?

Thanks
