I tried taking my Red Hat exam online last year but could not.

After passing all the compatibility tests I connected to the proctor, the Red Hat provided OS found both cameras, but only allowed for the built-in camera to be used, not the external camera I had purchased.

I tried restarting the system with the built-in camera disabled, however the Red Hat OS still only enabled the built-in camera.

The proctor told me I could not take the test and that RH support would call me. The support solution was to unplug the external camera and plug it in once more. I had already done that many times, they had no further help to give. Red Hat told me they had never seen this issue before.

I have now ordered an EIVOTOR 720 webcam based on recommendations here. Is my issue a known one and has it been resolved?

Hi @johnnyx ,

It sounds like the first external camera used did not support the remote exam image. The remote exam image is based on Fedora32 and although most modern webcams are supported by default, some (older) models do not work on Fedora OS (Linux) and the remote exam image by extension.

The current version of the compatibility check cannot identify between external and internal web cameras and your pre-exam checks can pass because of the internal camera.
Please check if you were able to see the video feeds from the external web camera during the compatibility tests to ensure compatibility of the camera.

Regards,

The camera used for that exam attempt was brand new (late last year - 2020).

I tried the compatibility check yesterday with another brand new camera and still only the built-in camera is recognised. This is despite turning the camera off in every setting of the laptop.

I emailed this point to Red Hat - no response as yet.

I had that issue with the EIVOTOR HD 720p. I asked to have the exam rescheduled but now I need a camera which we know for certain that works with the image.

That's interesting @JEscalona as it's one camera that Red Hat have said works for others. My other new camera is a new Logitech C920 - which didn't work either.

It seems this is a known issue - despite Red Hat saying they have never seen it before. Despite having a MacBook Pro, a Dell Latitude and two brand new external webcams I very much doubt I will be able to take the exam tomorrow.

I have a Logitech C920 and I can confirm it works fine with the image.
