Hi , I use a TV as a monitor, will this be allowed for the remote exam or must I use a regular monitor for the exam?

Thank you in advance

Hi @Shaams

That's a bit of an unusual setup, I modified my initial answer after second thoughts.

In the reference guide, it says:

Monitors: Only one physical display will be allowed for the exam.

I think, by definition a TV is not a monitor, it's more of a screen + tuner, so technically I think it should not be accepted.

I think it needs further clarification, we will escalate and clarify that for everyone, by modifying the reference document. Thanks for asking about that topic!

Cheers,

Thank you for the reply, i will go with a laptop, just curious about the webcam set up, I do not have a wide angle webcam, i do however have an extra webcam, will it be allowed to connect the addition webcam to compensate for the lack of wide angle cam which would then bring the total cams to 3, integrated laptop cam and 2 external cams? or would I need to obtain a wide angle cam?

Hi @Shaams,

Are you able to see a feed from the external webcam while performing the compatibility test? We need only one wired external webcam - the integrated webcam of your laptop is good to have, but not a mandatory requirement.

If either of your Webcams are detected in the remote exam image and if you are able to see a feed from it (this would be in the "Streaming Compatibility Checks" page), you should be fine.

One other issue you might bump in to though would be the clarity offered by your webcam. The Proctor should be able to read the text in your ID card. We have noticed that some external webcams and laptop's integrated webcams fail to adjust their focus automatically to make ID card texts readable. A practical way to test this would be to use the webcam in your laptop's operating system, open a camera application or webconferencing client, turn on self-view, hold the id card close to the camera and check if you can read the contents.

Webcam related requirements will be met if your compatibility test is able to see the feed from an external webcam and if the above experiment to read text contents off your ID card succeeds.

Best Regards,

Shefeeq

@shefeeqyr

thank you for such an informative response, my question is based more around the ability of the proctor to pan the room when he/she wants to while I am busy with the exam, hence the wide angle cam which I do not have, my suggestion was then to add an additional cam to cover the rest of the room so the proctor will be able to switch between my laptop cam and the 2 external cams? will this be allowed or is the above that you mentioned enough to gain approval from the proctor?

Hi @Shaams,

Thanks!

I am not entirely certain if 2 additional webcams will be detected together by the Proctoring application, sorry about that. I am asking internally though. However, if both your integrated webcam and one external webcam are sending feeds, then that can be used to compensate for the reduced field of vision of the external webcam. It's a matter of positioning the laptop screen and webcam in a way that let's the Proctor cover an acceptable view of your surroundings.

Best Regards,

Shefeeq

@shefeeqyr

I tried the compatibility test and it only detected 2 cams, the inegrated cam and the 1 external cam it did not detect the 2nd external cam, so i think your suggestion would be more suited than trying to add an additional cam, cam positioning seems to be more viable.

I hope, an integrated laptop webcam is still not mandatory, as mine does not have one. so i will use only one camera, which is the external webcam.
Do i need a standing external webcame?

Thanks,

Nikhil

Not mandatory. You need an external one with a meter cable so you can move it around the room.
