I'm going through a course description, and I've noticed the term '[user@host~]$' mentioned. It's not clear to me what it signifies in the context of the course. Should I be considering the use of some OpenCTL environment, or is there another significance to this notation within the course materials?

The notation user@host is mentioned in the lectures section ( which is for demo and lecture purpose)  where you are not supposed to perform the steps in the lab environment. user@host specifies a general login shell structure depicting a user logged in to server (host) for explanation purpose. Replace user with student or root and host with workstation or servera based on the lab environment you create and the guided lab instructions.

When you go to sections titled as "Guided Exercise" or "Lab" - you can see that the notation used is  student@workstation  or student@servera or student@utility  and hence  you can perform the same in the lab environment.
