I've been working with RHEL 7 for a few years. I'd like to prepare for the RHCSA exam. Do I study for RHEL 7 or should I learn RHEL 8? I've taken the RH124/RH134 but only on RHEL 7.
This is an easy answer: RHEL 8.
There is no longer a RHEL 7 RHCSA exam (at least in the US).
And yes, the requirements for RHCSA for RHEL 8 are different from RHCSA for RHEL 7.
A few examples: VDO, Stratis, scripting, and containers.
See the RHCSA / RHEL8 exam objectives here: https://www.redhat.com/en/services/training/ex200-red-hat-certified-system-administrator-rhcsa-exam?...
In addition to this... RHEL9 beta was published a few months ago, and RHEL9.0 is about to be published (and already announced at Red Hat Summit 2022). I'd think new courses with update materials are going to be due soon
This is also true.
Even so, if history is any indication, the RHEL 8 RHCSA will still be available for some time (a year?) after the official RHEL 9 material (and exam) is released.
Even if the RHEL 9 training material is published this summer, we'll not be able to start teaching until until the Spring 2023 semester and more likely Fall 2023.
