Hi
I have an exam scheduled in 4 hours. I'm having difficulty creating the disk image
Hi @tomcorcoran ,
Like @Gineesh said, all candidates are supposed to prepare their setup (the preparation guide says "2-3 days prior to your exam:").
Unfortunately in your case, that is a bit late and certainly stressful to do that a few hours before the exam...
I would suggest you try to work with the live support team, helping to prepare the Remote Exam, see the button at the end of page 1 of the preparation guide:
https://www.redhat.com/rhdc/managed-files/tr-remote-exams-preparation-ebook-f27382-202103-en_1.pdf
Regarding your system, "Mac Big Sur" only indicate the OS and not the hardware.
That OS is from end 2020, so fairly recent. Quite likely you have the hardware with the infamous T2 security chipset. Do read at the end of the preparation guide, there are some FAQ explaining about the issues with that type of hardware...
I hope the live support can help you. Unfortunately, based on the recent OS; you probably have a recent MAC hardware, which is quite likely to have the T2 chip, and therefore hardware limitations preventing you to run Linux on that device... So as an external observer, without knowing all the facts. I think your situation is not very promising.
Good luck!
PS: I'm saying as an exam candidate myself, for further tries, nobody wants/need the last minute stress of preparing the remote exam environment on the exam day. It's best to read the preparation guide attentively and follow the advice written there.
Possible I could get some assistance? I'm using a Mac - Big Sur

We discussed with @tomcorcoran and it turns out the issue is using a recent MAC with the infamous T2 chip, indeed.
There's a list of hardware impacted on Apple website:
official Apple list of computer with T2 chip
Anyway, bottom line, as indicated in the prep guide, Tom had to use another hardware without that T2 chip. He was also working things out with support to reschedule the exam at a later date!
Hi @Deanna ,
In Jan 2021, I created a remote exam bootable live USB. Is it still valid? I registered to take the exam on August 30, 2021.
I tried to compare the latest ISO from https://static.redhat.com/downloads/training-certification/rhrexboot.iso, with the one I downloaded in 1/2021.
❯ ll rhr*
-rw-r--r--@ 1 zji 1437522721 2.3G Aug 22 17:05 rhrexboot (1).iso
-rw-r--r--@ 1 zji 1437522721 2.3G Jan 8 2021 rhrexboot.iso
they have the same size, seems the same. But would like to check if I can use the I already have, so that I do not have to Create the disk image again.
Please confirm.
thanks
-Eric
Hi @EricJi ,
Do refer to the prep guide:
https://www.redhat.com/rhdc/managed-files/tr-remote-exams-preparation-ebook-f27382-202103-en_1.pdf
There's several topics about the md5sum to check the size and integrity, ex:
How do I verify if I downloaded the remote exam live USB image
successfully?
The size of the rhrexboot.iso is about 2.3 GB. The MD5 checksum is
0dd72ac558fc1afbf0c0e1fa4b366f10.
Cheers,
PS: It's best to ask those kind of questions to the live support, see end of page 1 in the prep guide, there's a button to contact them.
thanks @JS_Learning
I am using Macbook Pro 2016 model and i'm able to boot exam image via a USB drive however after booting, its not detecting my WiFi, no output received for sound and mic test. My exam is scheduled for tomorrow and cannot reschedule it as its less than 24 hrs. Unfortunately, i can neither purchase an ethernet to USB C converter in this short period of time for wired Internet nor do i have another laptop to load the image for the exam. Please let me know what can be done in such situation.
My exam expiry date is 28th Aug, hopefully, it can be rescheduled from backend?
P.S. i had tested a month ago the image, at that time, my Wifi was detected however it didnt let me connect, for some reason, later, i found out my Wifi connection was not proper and it had to be fixed by the ISP.
