Remote exam second camera

Jump to solution

Which second camera really works for remote exam? I could not write RHCSA exam because I was told the camera I am using is incompatible, I will be happy if the exact working model be shared so that I buy the correct one.

Hi, Auttis

I assume that there are many brands and models of cameras that are acceptable / accepted as the second (external) camera / webcam to take the RHCSA Exam (EX200). For what it's worth, for my RHCE Exam (EX294) that I took in August 2024, I used a "Conceptronic AMDIS04B 1080P Full HD Webcam with Microphone" - https://www.conceptronic.net/conceptronic_en/amdis04b-1080p-full-hd-webcam-with-microphone-100753007... - and it passed the "compatibility test" (of the Remote Exam Live Environment), when I ran it in the personal laptop computer of mine that I used to take the Exam. I ran that "compability test" a few times in the days before my exam and in the day of the exam. That second webcam was also accepted during the exam by the remote Proctor, without any issues.

I hope this helps.

Hello
To be clear, you do not need a second camera. You just need an external camera. Because Red Hat needs to have a side view. In case you have a laptop with a built-in camera, the external camera connected to it is of course secondary. I just wanted to be sure people get it right, because some people with desktop computers may assume they need to get two cameras for the exam. No. Two are better, one is fine, but it must be an external one.
The compatibility has been discussed here already:
https://learn.redhat.com/t5/General/RedHat-Remote-Exam-supported-hardware-cameras-mice-keyboards/td-...

The camera view for the exam is explained here:
https://learn.redhat.com/t5/Certification-Resources/How-to-position-an-external-camera-for-a-Red-Hat...

Good luck with your exam!

Hello PetrCihlar,

I indeed brought the external camera, I tested it before it worked, during the tests with the examiner before the exam he said it is not working, the exam was cancelled and never given the chance to write.

It is unfortunate that in my country there is not testing center for Rehat, I have to travel more than 500km to another country if I need to write at the testing center, so the camera was an ideal.

Hello
I do not know the details of your exam. It may happen you see the video stream during the compatibility check but later, as the exam starts, the video feed drops. The reason for this may be insufficient upload speed. Not enough bandwidth to pass the data through the network from you to us. What is your upload speed? Did you make sure in the network details (in the network settings, as you boot) that the link speed is good? Did you try to connect using an Ethernet cable, not wifi?
